IZH MP513M
Got this one recently to shoot with open sights only and at close range up to 25 yards. Weighs only 7 lbs. A well made gun, simple design, great barrel, just like any other Russian made barrel. No plastic parts except for the front sight. Cocking effort is 40 lbs. Reaches 18-20 fpe in .22 cal.
Very loud for a springer. Very consistent with certain pellets and these are the ones I am going to test first for accuracy later on. Consistency-wise, best pellets are Silver Arrow, H&N Match, and Ram Jets. Kodiak is too heavy for this gun. The gun comes with spare parts, spring, cleaning rod, manual in English, safety inspection receipt in Russian, etc. So far I am impressed. Not the best looking gun, but Russians are well-known for this: it doesn’t matter how it looks like, as long as it works!
Can’t wait to nail a first pigeon with it.

Here is one Baikal’s stock without surface treatment
and with new treatment. I used stain and semi-gloss varnish.
OK, finally had some time (actually all day) to play with my IZH. I started to shoot different pellets on 20 yards indoor range. Pellets tested:
Predator, RWS SP and SD, Ram Jets, Silver Arrow, Trophy, H&N Match, Beeman FTS, Silver Bear, 15.8 and 14.3 gr. Exacts, Crow Magnums and Silver Ace.
Velocity-wise, the most consistent are: Silver Bear, FTS, H&N Match, Trophy, Silver Arrow, Ram Jets, and Predators. So out of 13 total, I found these 7 to be the most consistent. Now, I will re-test the ones I found to be the most accurate again at later time because now my shoulder hurts and eyes exhausted 😥
So, the most accurate today are: Predator, Silver Arrow, H&N Match and Silver Bear: only 4 out of original 13 I’ve tested. I’d still like to get only one to stick with, so more tests will follow. Now I only have 4 to play with.
These are 20 yard 5 shot groups with IZH MP513M with open sights. Don’t pay any attention to the point of impact, I haven’t even touched the sights yet. All of them are roughly 1.25″ c-t-c.

OK, Sportsman’s Guide (I said Sportsman’s Warehouse above by mistake…) has redeemed themselves. They sent my membership card and with it were the two coupons for $10.00 with no minimum and good until, Jun 30, 2009!
The other two (with $99.00 purchase required) were in the box with the gun.

(even though it creaks like an old barn gate when cocked.. 🙂 ..)
Got mine from Sportsmans Warehouse, took only 2 days to get here but they are based in MN and I live here too, so UPS ground shipment was actually only 1 day from leaving the warehouse!
I went for the SG “membership” to get full discounts, and free shipping, etc. and used an online coupon to get the gun itself from $49.00 to $39.00. Total with membership ($29.95) was $63.00 due to MN sales tax.
Have to ask them a question though.. what made me bite bullet on “membership” was the 2 $10.00 coupons with “no minimum purchase” and good for 12 months. What I received was 2 $10.00 coupons that require $99.00 purchase and expire on 6-30-08 or there abouts…. 😥
I am sending them an email with a photo of the coupons and a photo of the page promising the no minimum ones…
If no good response from that, it goes to the MN Surgeon General… and the BBB.
Still, with membership, etc. it came to about same as what it would without and paying shipping, etc., so while I am not happy with what actually transpired vs what I was expecting, I am at least not taken completely for a ride on it.
Love the gun so far!
Now to just apply some of the tweeks to it I have found on the internet to improve it. I am thinking about making a wooden stock to replace the cheapo plastic one.
It shoots right through the license plate on my soon to be towed old junker!
My .22 cal scope mounts did not fit though, too big for it… Are these an odd size? What do I use instead?
Going to presume you are trying to mount 11mm rings as would fit a talon/condor. Get a set of 3/8 dovetail rings for .22 rimfire (slightly smaller) readily available at Wally World; should fit just right.

Looks good ! I have a 512 coming.. sometime… Really looking forward to it.

And the winner is… the Predator 16.5 gr (18 FPE)
Shot it from the garage on to the driveway which is exactly 15 meters. Had to improvise a backstop with phonebooks.
These are 3 shot group at 15 meters/open sights with a predator.
I got the windage done and the elevation shoud put me dead nuts at 20-25 yards which will be my limit.
So far I am happy with this gun. I bought it to shoot with open sights only.
One more that performed OK is Silver Arrow.
