How would you do it??
Guys,
I know very little about Air Rifle’s,
But, have 50+yrs of building/shooting the powder rifles and LR pistols etc,
from 17 cal thru 357 cal.
I am a sniper/hunter first, target shooter 2nd etc, 1S1K motto.
The following is what I want to do,
Caliber will be 22 cal, 1st choice or 17 cal, 2nd choice,
Very accurate out to 50 yds+, sniping pest birds, starlings, sparrows, magpies etc, using a 5x16x scope,
that are invading the chickens feed etc.
Very very quite, back yard friendly, starlings are very spooky and they learn very quickly,
Get the most shots per usable tank fill for psi, within what ever fps range, that is best, 30+ shots if possible,
Pellet types/weights, the best possible to fit the above spec’s etc.
How would you do it???????
Your thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That will fit the bill easily out of the box. The jsb 25.4 gr are what mine preferred with the ej 32.4 a very close 2nd. Accurate out to 100+ yds and more than enough power to smash critters. I think if i did it again from scratch once it is broken in and i had a feel for the gun i would add the tank cover so it actually feel like a rifle stock, then the tt trigger spring to get the trigger nice and light, a shim under the top hat to help tame the bell curve and get it right where you want it set up at then either a wokgard or mad dog stock. Both are awesome and honestly its up to the shooters taste on what you want. I have 1 of each. That should help with consistancy and accuracy. When your ready for quiet, hands down tonys shrouds are the best. For lower power settings you can run r&l shroud for a 24 in barrel and add 4 additional cups. I have an 18 in barrel setup like that and it is mousefart quiet up to around 40 fpe. My talon tunes 14 inch shroud is mousefart up to 90 fpe and still neighborhood friendly up to 100.

I have my eye on a Condor 22 caliber, 18″ bbl,
I will upgrade the add on’s to increase the accuracy etc, to make what I want to do etc,
accuracy first, very quite next.
I would use a hand pump first, then go to a HP electric pump later one,
looking at a Hill 4 gen to start off, as it would be a 100+ drive one way to fill any air tank.
Not many fill stations in the desert, LoL.

Well, you didn’t say anything about budget . . .
For consistency and repeatability, I would go with something with a good regulator, like an Edgun or a Cricket, and shoot JSB pellets. Each of those will meet your needs right out of the box, and can be improved by tweaking after you have it for a while.
JSB 18gn pellets would be the go-to.
When you are ready to tune, get the set to 880-900 fps, set your zero at 50yds and you can knock down pests from 15yds to 55 yds without a holdover.
I’ve only been at this for a few months,, so certainly not the most knowledgeable / experienced person to be offering advice, but, I believe I’ve achieved close to what you’re wanting.
I don’t shoot daily, sometimes not even weekly and I’ve kept my Condor factory tuned, adding only a .062″ rubber top hat shim. Power wheel set at 5-2, I’ve found JSB 18gr ammo to be the most accurate at my preferred 35yd zero.
Charging the bottle to 2800 and testing through the chrony shows mid 950s +/- fps and have only shot it down to 2000 still getting slightly above 900fps, I feel confident I could go a bit lower and still have decent shots. I’ve yet to do extensive shot amount testing per charge, but can easily say it’s more than 40.
I’ve added a 6″ TT shroud for better back-yard friendliness and it WORKS!….get more noise from the hammer drop than the muzzle report, and less action noise from the rubber shim than a nylon shim also.
I use my gun for pretty much the same pesting thing as you’re looking for with added paper target work during boredom times.
I always shoot from a rest of some sort, but to date, I’ve impressed myself with a couple shots on pests out to yardages I’ve had to “laser range find” just to stop me from shaking my head in dis-belief. :suprisedn: Took a chipmunk at 54yds with a “hashmark” hold-over and a grackle at 95yds with a 2 dot holdover. The grackle just amazed me as I figured to just scare it away, ’cause I never shot targets at that distance before, still believe it was a lucky shot, but shows what the gun is very capable of.

This Condor rifle is used and comes with a 4x15x50mm scope (Hawk brand) IIRR,
several cans of pellets, unknown brands/types, hard case, cleaning gear,
per the original owner it has less than 1/2 can of pellets thru it,
has not been modded/mess with etc, for $625 to my door,
this rifle is around 5-6yrs old, has a Red safety.
I plan on having a quite shroud put on it along with other options etc, as needed.
I do like the bbl/cal change features, which should provide more options, I hope.
When not being used to remove pest varmints, it will double as a Cottontail rifle for use around the local hay stacks etc.
and be used for yeller dog ADC work around the various ranches etc, where I can’t use my CF 17 cal rifle.
If my OLD sheridan can take CT and several yeller dogs, the Condor will be better. :biggrinn:
Lots of questions to work thru, and still reading all the posts here, 2 sections down and lots more to go…… :winkn:
Have not found any model yr/ser numbers to check it’s age.
