Q:

Mutant standard regulator adjustment

Hey Guys,

I have seen the regs out but nothing on how to properly adjust. I believe the factory setting is 145b. I would like to drop to say 130-135 and maybe add some plenum volume.

What are your recommendations? Any pics on how the reg is disassembled, cleaned and adjusted?

Thanks!

Getting to the reg should be the same for the standard and VET but the reg design and adjustment is different between the two.

The VET has a port/window on the side with a wheel that can be turned to adjust the spring pack shut off pressure. Apparently it is not recommended to take these apart.

The standard is adjusted from the top via a collar and set screw. These can be taken apart fairly easily with no issues.

I put over 1500 pellets thru mine before making any adjustments.

I’m thinking that I will allow my gun to settle in a bit before making any adjustments. I shot my 22 Vet over chrony when I first received it and it was shooting at 900 fps…JSB 18.13….after about 600 pellets I’ve noticed they are shooting at average 894 fps now. After another tin of 500 my plane are to recheck it.

Are Veterans and Mutants similar in getting to the reg? I’m no newb to tearing into lower end PCPs like Mrods, prods, discos and maximus but I’ve never gone into my high end guns lol but my reg set point is way too high for the 42fpe I want from my Veteran.

Adjusting the reg down really smoothed out the velocity curve. Getting a very consistent shot string now i.e. nice and flat before dropping off. I turned the reg nut in about 1/2 turn (overall reg height is now a bit over 75mm) and took some tension off the HS. The brass HST screw protrudes about 1.4mm now.

Muzzle velocity with JSB 18gr is 905. From 13yds over the chrono from 200b fill to around 105b it yielded the following:

Avg: 868, SD 8.2, 47 shots. Shot 1 = 868, Shot 47 = 837 (105b approximately). It starting coming of the reg around shot 44 at 855.

Its certainly fun and satisfying to be able to influence how your gun shoots and the MUTANT makes it easy. :8:

OK, got it out and see that its easy to adjust. Just need to clean up, reduce pressure and drop back in.

My reg was marked 146b with a hash mark below the set screw. Measure overall reg height so you have a zero point to go back to, adjust, measure height again for reference and lock in. Repeat as needed.

Here is a good video for how to access the reg and valve assembly. De-gass first!!! :angrymob:

Great, thanks Dman.

Any idea suggestions on sensitivity of the reg to adjustment…..say going from 145 to 130 bar?

Ok easy enough…

Pull the regulator out the tube(Will only come out the valve end as there is a shoulder inside that don’t let the regulator shift forward)

To adjust the pressure you loosen the tiny grub screw on the side of the top cap (it has a screen) then turn it to adjust accordingly.

I would strongly suggest ordering a nylon tipped screw to replace the locking screw… otherwise repeated tightening and loosening will flatten the threads on the regulator body….

Hey Dman,

Sorry I should have been more clear. This is a regular .22 Mutant NOT the new Veteran if that makes a difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I can get to it just curious how it is adjusted once I have it out.

I will try to reach out to tomorrow but in the meantime if anyone has suggestions or pics let hit me up.

Here is a quote from dimitry…

” The new reducer disc springs are pre-compressed state. This increases the life of three times. Inside you can see the washer with the holes. Rotate the washer can change the pressure. Rear Cylinder centered on the cone. He pressed two screws. Everything is aligned. I do not recommend this to disassemble reducer.”

Thanks. I can get to it just curious how it is adjusted once I have it out.
