Q:

Matador R3.5M drop 100 fps

Traded AIrbrained out of his matador, it shooting 830 really to hot for my comfort in my back yard. I ‘d like to drop the fps around a 100fps. AIrbrained suggested hammer spring adjustment. I dropped it to 750 just what I was looking for, first mag 4 skips before emptying the mag. Not the result I wanted. And yes AIrbrained told me to cock it with authority also what ed suggest.

Ok so this morning I drop it down from 860 to 815fps. Skips reduced to 1 per mag this time. Much better but still not 750 or there about. Well back up on power 1 shot chronied 850. also noticed a decernable tink noise when the mag rotates and loads a pellet. Anyone else shooting there matador R3.5m .25 around 750fps.

I was getting exactly 4 mags which is 36 shots.

quote Airbrained:

Did you end up using the Matador reg tester? If so how do you like it? I bought that tester and never used it so I’m curious. Anyway I wanted to ask how many more shots are you getting now with the reg reduced to 110bar?

Yes I used the reg tester, was a interesting experience. I never checked the shot count at 130b. Do you remember what you was getting AIrbrained?

No apology needed AIrbrained, ya gave me good solid info on adjusting the HS. the feedback from the matador was abit iffy. So Edgun forum seem a good place to ask. And thank goodness Brian didn’t have the the soft touch stock lol. The mutant std was a good investment that end up serving me well.

Very well explained KS, sorry Milkstax I couldn’t give you better advice and that’s why I only dealt with Bryan for my EdGun needs, he’s IMHO what’s kept Edguns head above water in the US market. Don’t get me wrong toshik and TalonTunes Tony have been dealing with EdGun products for a number of years now but Bryan is vocal and his videos are very informative and well thought out. I can tell you that If i was able to get the soft touch black stock or that sick looking blue laminate that Bryan had on his web store for a very short time, I would have never traded the Matador. Anyway Milkstax the Mutant is shooting better than I could have imagined but that trigger is scary lite!!!! Hope you and the Matador are getting along.

Let’s say you have a regulator set at 130 BAR. You’re shooting 720 FPS. The pressure drops below 130 BAR you will see a sudden spike because resistance on the valve is lessened. This will cause more valve dwell time and give you an increased speed.

So KS would the spike be a drop in fps say by 400fps with a follow up shot of a higher fps? Never had a regged gun go off regulator that I can recollect. Guess it the rest of the day watching videos. Thanks for the info KS. Get back to you when I get it down to 110bar.

You need to drop the regulator pressure. You’re going to get a spike when it falls off the regulator. The best way to tune an Edgun is this.
1 know your desired speed.
2. Adjust the regulator so the top of the HST first peak is about 20 FPS faster than your desired speed.
3. Back the HST down to your desired speed.
This will allow you to have 3 to 5 shots below your regulator and maintain the POI.

For that speed I would try about 110 BAR on the regulator. For super slow speeds you need to trim a mm or so off the hammer spring
.

If it is not enough to adjust HST, then you need to lower the regulated pressure. 10bars down will reduce the speed more or less by 10ms.
