Q:

Magazine question

I just noticed that there are only 9 grooves cut into the outer edge of the veteran magazine (beween the pellet holes). There are two pellet holes that don’t have a groove between them. Can’t believe how many times I’ve loaded them without noticing this.

I guess it’s supposed to be a visual indicator so you can see when you’re last shot is… assuming you start in the proper position?

I hadn’t noticed the missing grooves, either. I just take a white, auto body touch-up tube and place a white dot over one hole and always load the full magazine with that dot on top. Makes it easy to keep up with how many pellets are left when you approach the end.

I made a “big dot” with the white marker paint I mentioned. More like a blob really 😳 Here’s what it looks like. Serves the purpose anyway…

You have to become one with your gun…..
Close your eyes grasshopper, feel that there is no pressure on the bolt.

Then you will know, your glass is empty.

I never noticed the flat spots! In fact, I was planning to drill a small mark with my Dremmel. Thanks kidcurry :8:.

I bought some of this in white from Amazon. https://www.nissenmarkers.com/product/super-fine-metal-marker/
That’s why I was looking at the magazine more closely. I tested it on a smooth metal knife handle and it sticks pretty well but can scrape it off with a fingernail if you try (so don’t scrape it with your fingernail right? :biggrinn: )

I have used white electrical tape but that isn’t permanent either. If the paint doesn’t end up sticking for long I figure I’ll file a small v-notch on the circumference of the mag over one of the holes and fill that in with the white paint.

I saw in another thread where someone used white and red tape. White being the first shot and red being the next hole looking clockwise from rear. That way when the red is in the top spot you’re on the last one. Might be an option with paint as well…

Hum, I’ve notice that on the mags.

But never use it because I can feel the pellet feed into the breech when cocking.

Agreed. But if I take it out of the closet, I want instant visual indication of rounds left. I may or may not try tinkering with the idea of paint. Enamel paint like I do on my Glock slides. I do have some glow in the dark powder and could possibly epoxy it to the mag but enamel is easier…if I mess with it at all…

Lol yes guys my o rings are shot, I bought 70d but they don’t last long at all. I’ll be trying 90d next time. Yes I do have extra!

Miksatx, looks like you need to change the mag O-rings looks like they’re brittle and cracking ?

I take a dermal tool and take the paint off a small area and apply glow in the dark paint for gun sites ,
works pretty good ,
I get it cheap from WWW. patchworm.com
also sell nice cleaning gear for your air gun.

Miksatx, is it just me or are your magazine O-rings nearing their life expectancy? Got backups on the ready?

Yup, just checked my .25 mags and the flat spot exists in which I never noticed beforehand. Thanks for the heads up, kid.

I shit you not, just 30 mins ago I was contemplating ways to keep track of those last shot count and this thread pops up!

I was shooting at 118 yards toward the top of a huge Eucalyptus tree and went through a couple mags and had to keep trying to check how many shots I had left. I wasn’t counting in my mind as I was concentrating on the shot. The Veteran was held by the Fieldpod Magnum and I’m happy to announce that the rear cocking wasn’t as bad as I thought it could be. I had my scope on 16 power out of 24 and at 118 yards I was able to cock the gun and keep the bird in my sight picture. Yes, this lends credit to the Fieldpod, but still, I was thinking I’d have to completely lose my target everytime I cocked.

I marked all my mags 1 pellet behind that space.

Load the marked position first up.

Cycled till 2 shots left indication position.

Nice :biggrinn: ……

bet that’s what it’s for.
Could add a bit, white paint or something too help see it on the flat spot.
