Update on A.A.O.’s Texan 45 spring swap

For those of you that have not done the spring swap yet or have been dragging your feet. I made it out yesterday to put a few rounds down range.

The Texan is equipped with a nice Burris 4.5x14x50 a/o ballistic reticle scope. My range was approx 60 yards. Power wheel setting is 2nd hash mark with medium spring installed and running stock 3000 psi tank. Ammo was 215 grn bullets.

I must say I was not expecting the recoil and sound blast and it took me by surprise along with my wife. It has gone from the sound of a 22 mag rifle and light recoil to that compared to a 20 ga shotgun.

I am not happy with my scope set up as I ran out of verticle adjustment at 60 yards but I did not bring my chrono so it may be either a velocity issue or the bullet could still be in its ark, so when I get s chance to stretch out to a 100 yards I will know more. One thing I did notice that my ammo is not consistent in diameter as some would go all the way in the chamber while others would leave an 1/8 sticking out. This may attribute to my 2 inch groups. But the ones that would go all the way in the chamber would create one ragged hole.

Upon first fireing the Texan with the spring upgrade. Bullets impacted 8 inches low for 10 shots. This is when I ran out of verticle adjustment on the scope. Then after about 10 shots the bullets impact rose up 8 inches after 3 more shots and stayed at the bullseye. I do not know if the spring needed to break in or is the scope reticle was sticking from 5 years of non use.

I may lap the rings and reset the scope with a shim under the the front to see if I can get more verticle adjustment out of it at a later date.

I will present more info later when I have time to do more adjustment and use different ammo.

I was able to get 6 good shots from 2900 psi to 1500 psi with all rounds in the bullseye.
