Does anybody use a dot sight?
I’m probably using the wrong name (mental block) but what im talking about is a 50mm sight with no magnification that you just look through and put the dot on the target. Much quicker aquisition. Anybody use one? I’m thinking this may be the way to go for me because most of our shots are close and fast.

Thats’ the problem with Cheap Scopes. You have to get your head just right. With a good scope, it just magically pops up right every time! Cheap scopes suffer from serious tunnel vision and lousy and critical eye relief. This doesn’t happen on decent glass. Even entry level lower cost scopes. Like the Bushy Banner for instance. Very good for a very low price.
That and use the scope with BOTH eyes open for fast shots. 😀
Screw the peep sight unless you dont want any magnification at all. If you want quick accuisition then keep your scope on 3 or 4x.
I took Adams advice (plus I’m cheap and po) and bought a leapers 4X40 fixed power. I resisted getting a scope and still might go back to open sights. I think a BIG part of what makes this work so well (for me) is the simplicity (not variable) and the fact it was so cheap I could forgive it not being great.
Mornin Adam, right now i’m using open sights. Yeah I guess I could just use a good variable. Its just watching my friend use his, it seems to be too much trouble. When I look through it its very hard to get a good picture until you get your head in the EXACT right spot.

What about a bushnell holo sight? I know that would be more than i’d want to spend but i want something that has fast aquisition. I’m thinking about trying the new “precision” peep sights A.F. came out with. Either that or just scope the damn thing and spend even more on a green laser.
I dunno WOK, I have a russian-made sight that came with my Condor when I bought it.
There is no parallax at all.
I never shot it on the condor, instead I mounted on my Ruger 10/22 and I love it. Dot sights were born for semi-autos.
Like you said though, the limitation is the size of the dot. This one has 4 selectable “crosshairs”. A dot, a chevron, a combination of the two, and a centerless crosshair.
I find the combo dot/chevron works great.
Red dots are a good idea but not great for precision airgun shooting. The dot suffers from parallax and will actually cover very small targets. For example if you want to shoot a fly the entire red dot will cover the fly. With a scope you can shoo the wings off that same fly.

I did not know that Mike. I know it’s been said “Spend as much on glass as on the gun” But, I can’t bring myself to do it. One day I’ll sit down with this thing and see what I can do with it.
