Shifting POI what has made a big differance for me…
POI change in the AF rifles has been discussed over and over again. Shooting today has reminded me of all the things I looked at that could cause it. Once the shooter is sure the barrel screws are firm and the barrel is clean and their trigger technique is good he should check that the pellets are seated flush and insure the tophat is not loose. Also keep in mind that the gun is hold sensitive and should be cradled and held lightly and not firm. Also when bench testing it is best to keep the support on the foregrip so the barrel is not influenced inside the frame.
Now what made the biggest difference in correcting POI change was the scope and cheek weld. Initially I had a Leapers 3-9x 50mm. It is a nice scope and runs between $60-80. But the fact of the matter is the POI would change quite a bit from session to session and even in the same shooting session. This puzzled me and I ruled out temperature. When I installed a Bushnell Legend 5-12x 40mm my POI change stopped, Completely.
Now when a POI change occurs it is my trigger technique and I can concentrate and get back on target easily. Now with the Bushnell Scope which is much higher quality in Optics shooting shot gun shells at 100 yds off a tripod is routine. So when all is checked and ruled out with the gun remember sometimes the only cure is better optics.
It is so much more fun to hit small targets at long distances without getting frustrated with POI.

Try tapping on the windage adjustment on the side with the point of your finger…It works for my leapers….LOL
Good idea Adam, I’ll tap on that turret real good, probably with my sledge hammer. I may wait till the new scope comes though. 🙂
But seriously, struggling to keep pellets inside a 3/4 circle at 20 yrds is pretty sad. This scope is junk to me.

Yes! This happens to me quite often as well. Almost always left or right, two very good groups anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4″ apart. I also have noticed sometimes pellets that slowly drift from shot to shot, almost always to the right until they go outside of my 1″ circles, where I spend more air/pellets trying to get it zeroed again so I can continue some kind of decent shooting… but for how long…
this the very same problem i have. get my rifle zero on the money today and tommorro it is off an inch or two. zero it again and the next day its off again. optics optics optics?????? you get what you pay for. kingpin

With my current springer I’m using a very cheap centerpoint scope and I have experienced some POI shift from time to time. I keep thinking it’s possibly just the spring vibrating the screws in the mount loose but I guess not (I put some loctite in there and it still moves around a bit). So, Adam, your POI shift completely ended after you got the legend? ‘Cause that’s what I ordered with the ss and it’s good to hear it doesn’t suffer from that.
Even with the semi-flakey scope I managed to shoot a squirrel out of a tree yesterday from 40 yards away (right in the side of the noggin). I got some pictures of it and a previous one I shot (but much closer) that I may post some time.
I have a Leapers 6-24X56 SWAT. Damn it’s frustrating. The thing will shoot dead on for a 20 shots or so, then I’ll get what I think is a flyer. We all get those here and there, human error, bad pellet, gust of wind, whatever. So I shoot again, right thru the same flyer hole… I’ve just been given a new POI. 😡 I’ll go to the windage adjustment to correct… still goes thru same hole. Adjust a bit more… same flyer hole. Adjust still a little more… now the shots are WAY out to the OPPOSITE side of target. It’s like the internals are gummed up or something.
I’ve been experiencing the same thing with my 4x16x56SWAT. Its a total pain in the ass. Most 5 shot groups end up being 2 separate one-holers about a half inch in any direction, but usually left or right.
I have a couple 6.5×20 leupolds; if I can find some 1″ rings that work I might give one a try. Ill miss the mil-dot though. I’m not willing to buy anything new ATM though.

Wayne brought this one to me to look at, but I didn’t want quite that much magnification. Beautiful and clear just didn’t suit what I wanted at the time.
hard to beat for just 150 bucks.
It is an excellent Barska Mildot 24 power from Buds Gunshop around 160.00 but the ZOS off EBay is also wicked my buddy has one on his Condor and it is slightly better then the barska but I also heard they are the same just his is newer.

Good subject, I’ve been chasing my tail lately with my scope, in fact, I just about feel like I’m wasting air and pellets the last few weeks, and i’m sure 90% of it is my scope. I’ll be ready to afford a new scope soon, just started working again recently.

Two allen keys that’s it A Airguns I think has them but they are getting harder to find. My buddy in Kansas picked one up but it had the endcap opened up he jb welded a washer in place nice and quiet now. 8)

A quality Scope can make a “HUGE” difference. I’ve had some fairly expensive that would change poi. The AO should not have anything to do with. Unless it is loose. The size of the Ao or just the objective won’t effect POI at all.
I was having problems with the cheap banner dusk to dawn on the SS. I switched to a Zeiss, and it is rock solid now!
I was never really sure when I first went out with the rifle if it was going to be on or not. I missed a few,(more than a few) first shots on varmints out here). With the Zeiss, I know before I pull the trigger exactly where the round is going to go!
Sure makes those long shots a lot more enjoyable! 😈

Damn, that sucks. Normally, Leapers scope are pretty good quality from my experience. Then again, I buy the $150-$250 versions of them like the 8-32×56 Accushot “King of Swat”.

Mine always shoots at the center of my target, for as many shots as I have air. 😆
