Q:

Can you take the regulator off a Cricket ?

I really like the Cricket Mini-Carbine .25 but I don’t want a regulated gun, nor I wanna fill to 4500 PSI

So I was wandering if the regulator could be taken off and the gun tuned in the 60 FPE range with a 3000 psi

man I have heard good thinks things about the Georgia man , He can make the Crickets spit pellets at very high speeds, The big pellets.
I have never dealt with the guy, but he is a Cricket specialist , So its just a matter of time..

I have no real need for a regulated gun, but I was talking with Georgia Airguns and he gets the Cricket to shoot the 34gr JSB at 920 fps with the reg still on, so looks like there’s no need to remove it :biggrinn:

For whatever reason(s) you can remove the reg if desired.
But need to make a spacer tube that goes far enough into the AT to the end of reg stop.
This tube needs 2 O-ring seals placed within grooves, this is to seal off the reg breather hole on the AT.

On the Cricket BP with 16 disks reg it will not seat or regulate after 145b ish.

3300 psi = 3300/14.5 = 227 bar

….. so as long as your 17 disks reg is set some where below 227 bar you should get well over want you need.
The question is how many useable shot you’ll get ?

But, like I said never owned a Mini-Carbine.
Tried searching the TAG and can’t find Ernests post.
But I’d give him a call to ask if it’s doable for a Mini-Carbine.

So even with the Reg still in and filling to 3000-3300 psi the Cricket will have no problems making 60 FPE.

Don’t own a Cricket Mini-Carbine .25, just the PBs……..

But I believe it’s been done already to the Cricket BP 25 cal with Cuda or King heavies at 900ish.

Don’t need to remove the Reg, full put porting and polishing playing with the springs.
You may need to a an extra washer, 17 disk in the reg to tune it above 145b + in .25 cal in the 70fpe range.

NP, I own a .22 Cricket, though not mini-carbine. Tried to find some close-up photos of the mini-carbine‘s air tube, in vain, so I base what I will write on the Cricket itself. Can give you a starting point at least.

If Kalibr uses the same air tube or at least the same type of design, I don‘t think you can just take out the reg. The air tube has holes where the reg has it’s atmospheric breathing hole. I think when you take the reg out, the air tube will not keep air, it will just bleed out through this hole.
I think there is a possibility to have it unregulated. You keep the reg in, but adjust the screw on the thin end of the reg way out, neutralizing it’s function this way. There’s a Earnest video showing this on a Cricket reg from 6:15 to 8:20 https://youtu.be/IunugoDsIro.

After you might need to play with hammer spring force/preload and/or hammer weight to have the power and velocity you require, as the hammer needs to open a valve which is kept shut by the full high pressure in the air tube, not the lower regulated pressure.
What I don’t know for sure, though, is whether the air will bleed out this way or not, I imagine no, but am not sure. Take it with a grain of salt, I need to do some more research. Will let you know if I find out more.
Edit: after some research, it doesn’t seem as the air will bleed out this hole. Well, in reality it will, very, very slowly, depending on the quality of the o-rings used, at the same rate as it would bleed out of a normal air-tube over (a long) time. Keeping the reg and disabling it’s function should therefore work.

Btw, I don’t fill my Cricket to 4500 PSI, way too hard on the o-rings and mechanics and no real benefit as the reg works best at a max of around 3200 PSI. Filling it higher yields you some more shots, but is completely inefficient.
