CHEAP QUICK TAKEDOWN MOD
Due to the length of my current setup, I needed a way to remove and install my shroud easily to fit in a case or travel. Figured others here could use the same.
Found a 10-32 thumbscrew at Lowes for $.69 that solved all my problems; now I can remove my shroud in seconds, without any tools.
only length available was 3/4 inch so had to shorten the screw slightly for decent appearance but works great.

I think I’ll get rid of the plastic on mine too. maybe a knurled edge for grip.
Custom brass knob I made to replace the plastic one. It started life as a breach knob, but was a little to fat for my taste.
It is a really cool mod, especially if you carry your gun in a case.
Sure beats carrying a 50″ case!!
I just picked one of these things up. Mine cost $2.50!!! 😯 I got mine at the Do It Center, if anyone cares to know.
Close up, my shroud is being painted at the moment, so i just stuck a piece of scrap 1″ ali tubing for show purposes. But the screw works great!

Yeah, alabama is pretty good because you can own about anything here. Get past the federal crap and you’re good to go. 🙂
Of course, in the city up here it’s not as lenient as it is everywhere else. But, that’s what shrouds are made for. 🙂
while federal law allows, state and local legislation pre-empts. Many states do not allow ownership of classIII weapons reguardless of permits available from batf; CA included (thats one of the reasons I now live in AL LOL 😛 😛 😛 ).
Why not just pay the $200 and get a legit .22 silencer? It would be lighter, more compact, and easier to remove.
Wouldn’t be hard to do, just would push the line we tread with the BATF re:silencers a little closer to the edge. Being non threaded the shroud leaves plenty of room to argue that there is no INTENT to silence a FIREARM, it is strictly for airgun use (over which batf has no jurisdiction); intent is a requirement for the device (shroud) to be considered a FIREARM SILENCER; which is a felony to posess without a class III license or transfer certificate (pay 200.00 tax to the BATF to get a certificate).
It would be really sweet if you could figure out a way to thread the inside of your frame and the outside of the shroud.

Good tip on using the knob..it is also a good way to make sure that the shroud is secure good and tight and you won’t be shooting it off the end of your gun like I did… 😆 😆
