Q:

Okay, here’s where I’m at and what I need…………

……….I’d like you opinions please.

I’d like one Tuned Air Force rifle for the following:

1) .177 caliber for the occasional Hunter Field Target match that I may shoot two or three times a year. The rifle must be superbly accurate and ergonomic. I can shoot HFT off a bipod or shooting sticks. I’d like to shoot at maximum fpe which is 20.

2) .22 caliber. I need it to be at least a 30 fpe rifle (preferably more if the physics of the system will allow). While the rifle will probably stay in .177 for most plinking, I’d like to go to .22 for hunting.

3) The rifle must be repeatable. By this I mean that accuracy shouldn’t suffer by swapping out barrels.

Quiet and accurate are paramount. I’d also like opinions on grips, buttpads, etc. Thanks,

Paul

I’ve been a condor owner for less than a week so take my suggestions for what they are worth. But I’ve been playing with some ideas. The receiver/frame could be improved with my eyes closed. Especially with regard to flex… but I dunno yet if it’ll be worth it because I have no real data from actual shooting due to being with this project for so short a time. But the top strap rail could definitely be reinforced and there needs to be greater stiffness between the tank assy and the breech.

On another note, I thought about what you brought up, a switch bbl system; not my style, I’d rather just get several guns, each with a purpose in mind because then there would be a guarantee of performance and no compromise from one use to the next. I’ve read from several people how this gun is hold sensitive… bad news for FT. But if you really want to try it, you’d have to do something like this (yes I’ve played with the idea); you have to true up the inside of your tube, get it exactly true to center of axis… then thread the inside of your front tube, then bevel the mouth with around a 30 degree cut so it funnels into the axis. Now you can make up adapters for your 2 barrels… with attached collars. The collar that mates up to the front will be threaded so that it screws into your receiver internal threads… your bbls will screw in, like a normal powderburner. The bevel cut in your receiver will ensure the bbl is perfectly centered each time you screw it in. Even if the threads wear a little, the bevel cut maintains exact center alignment. This will ensure that your barrel set will always shoot to very, very near the same point of impact. How close? That will depend on how accurately you machine the collars that go onto your barrels. The barrels themselves will have to be turned between centers to be sure the outsides are perfectly concentric with the bore and your collars will have to be near press fit close. So, again, it’s possible… but it would be cheaper to just buy several guns.

Well done Lama; Then again, don’t let it go to your head.

Like the young bull said to the old bull as he looked down upon all the cows in the herd. Let’s run down and jump one! The old bull replied; Hell kid, let’s walk down and jump’em all. AKULA

Woo! I got complimented on my advice giving! Yay!

Anytime. 🙂

I think it’s good advice too. Thanks!

Thats a very good take on it Lama. Good advice.

Nice rant rev. 😉

That’s a tricky set up you are looking for. Most people tune the gun for one caliber, and leave it like that. You’d almost have to retune it for a switch. You technically don’t have to tune it, but if you are looking for the utmost in consistancy it’s needed. I don’t know how fast a condor shoots with a .177.

Maybe try this. Get a condor, and a shroud. Get an extra .22 or .177 barrel depending on what the gun already has. Then, buy a talon tank for the .177 caliber. You can tune the talon tank for the .177 and the condor tank for the .22. That will give you power with the .22 and shot count with the .177. If you don’t mind the power drop, you could even get a micro-meter tank instead of a talon tank for lots of shots. Accuracy won’t suffer from swapping barrels, but impact point will. You will have to sight it in every time you switch calibers. You won’t get around that with any gun.

Just my thoughts.

This whole avatar deal escapes me.

Hitler basked in hatred. That and fear was what made him tick. What better way to mock his memory than to do the one thing that he and his cronies would never stand for, i.e. using Free Speech to make fun of him.

But since it offends, it’s gone.

No opinions on the gun choices, I don’t have anything remotely capable of doing what you want, nor have I ever had the chance to use one.

But my opinion on your hitler avatar is that it sucks…
The guy is a compete piece of crap.
It is a bit amusing seeing him get into the groove of some good tunes and I get the joke, but sorry, … I just can’t go there….

Anything short of him being kicked in the butt, shot in the head, shit on.. etc. hitler (small h on purpose…)… and to think. some praise him.. surely not you though, but …grrrrrrr! All hitler lovers should be put in a shipping container and dropped into a volcano.
