Q:

GOT PAID A VISIT FROM MR. JOHN Q. LAW TODAY…..

Was out at one of our favorite squirrel spots doing some target practice, actual targets not hunting, when a worker drove up and told me to be on my way. I was very polite and said it was just my son and me doing some target shooting with air guns. He didn’t care, said i would have to leave or he was calling the sheriff. Mind you i’m on a dirt road out in B.F.E. I told him to go ahead and call, I would wait for him to get here. About an hour or more he showed up, we talked it over and it was agreed that i was NOT breaking ANY laws. Mind you i’m only speaking for myself in my county. But the deputy was interested and i gave him the five cent tour of the A.F. gun. This makes three LEO’s i’ve spoken to and all agree, i’m legit. Plus i looked at out P.C. book and couldn’t find anything.

I was on public property (a gravel road) out in the middle of nowhere. The reason farmers/ranchers are so up tight around my parts is because of vandalism and theft. I don’t blame them to a point, but after i’ve explained to them about it being a air gun and me with my 11 year old son. I believe he could of cut me a brake.

Savage, I’m curious why it was a big deal to this guy… private property and a worker of the property? Some people are just tight-ass dicks.

I’ve been spoken to by 3 local law enforcement offers over the years. They were all OK with me shooting in my yard as well as down the dirt road near my house… as long as I’m watching which direction I’m shooting and not taking any protected birds.

The law enforcement members have recently really taken a shit as far as laid-back goes. If I so much as fart out the window while driving around I’ll get ticket. I still shoot on my property, but I keep an eye out and the back door fully open…

Good experience. Glad to hear it went well.

I was visited in my front yard a few months back when a deputy saw me carrying a dead squirrel. Was concerned it was the Washington Ground Squirrel, but we finally determined it was the California variety. I’m at the very northernmost reach of their range.

There is a squirrel playground a few miles from my house. A small bridge crosses a creek, then the road forks. There are turnouts on both forks, and couple of neighbors and I have been having a heyday. I’m shooting the Condor, everybody else is using springers and a pump Sheridan.
Sometimes one of them will call to me to take a shot, they like the way the .25 Condor hits.

4 of us were there 2 weeks ago, the same deputy drove up. We were told as long as nobody is shooting from their vehicles, and if we are off the roads, no problem. Then he saw the Condor, then asked what are you shooting them with? After a few minutes of looking over the rifle, he asked me to shoot it. I think he was having a hard time bending his brain around the fact my black gun was an airgun. All he said after the shot was, “Impressive, I’d like to have one of those”.

Why do you think the guy was pitching a bitch? Sounds like you were on public land, not trespassing on private land. Or is this a California thing?
