Rust?

If you apply divers silicon on them they will stay nice and shiny. Silicon is super tenacious and is hard to remove. Auto body shops do not allow anywhere near them due to the fact if silicon gets on metal it can not be painted. It hangs on tenaciously.

So rub the parts with divers silicon real good and wipe down. They will stay protected for a long long time.
