Q:

Looking at getting a .20 cal barrel some day

This caliber really interests me and I’ve been thinking about getting a barrel that would shoot these pellets. My question to you all is what would I have to do in order to get .20 24gr Eun Jins going in the mid-900’s (barrel length, and any other mods)?

Thanks

Pat

Yes I do know lol. It’s just that the extra weight means more air.

I guess in .22 I could also go with an 18″ barrel and shoot beeman kodiaks with a modded valve and hammer.

So many combinations and now I cannot decide. Plus I wish I had more money!

Pat, they do have .22 Eun jins you know.

Thanks lama I just wish I hadn’t hesitated on that .20 cal barrel that was for sale here. Somebody else snatched it up! 😥

I really want to be shooting .20 cal eunjins to see how effective they are. Plus I’m tired of getting tins of lighter pellets, which like you said lama, deform very easily.

Edit-

Between .20 cal and .22 cal which caliber would you guys say? I mean I can get a 18″ .20 barrel and get what I want or make my gun super long and get a 24″ .22 barrel. It’s hard to judge if the pros of .22 outweigh the con of super long length.

Eun jins rule. Simple as that.

I’ve tried several pellets out of my condor, and I always end up with the eun jins. They are the most accurate, and hardest hitting. The crow magnums expanded well, and hit hard, but they were horrible in the accuracy department.

I’ve never had any bad deformation from shipping. I mean, if you get a beat up box, you will probably have some that are messed up, but they are so thick and solid they usually don’t. Definately not as much as the lighter pellets.

Now, for hunting, they don’t deform much at all. Mine barely deform as they tear through 2×4’s. But, how many other pellets will shoot through a 2×4? 😛

If they are accurate in your barrel, eun jins are the way to go. 🙂

Thanks for the reply mike. Which caliber I end up with may in the end rely on which one can I get for cheap.

Is it just me or does it seem like your condor should be getting higher velocities with a 24gr pellet?

PatricKStam,

I have a .20 cal 24″ barreled Condor. After messing around a bit with I get 23.4 gr Eunjins running in the 980’s. TH .087, pw 11. Turn the pw down to 7 and throw 13.9 Kodiaks at 1050. POI for both are so close to being the same that starlings don’t care at 60 yards. Flat-a#* amazing what a 23.4 gr. sleeping pill will do to the skyrats. The gun needs a Tony shroud though, it sounds like a framing gun going off.

Good luck on your 5mm/.20 cal. adventure.

$80 is a small price to pay for a nice barrel. Go get your eun jin pellets and .20 barrel, and tell us how it works out.

quote bikincrazy52:

You could just as easily get a .22 pellet into the 900’s. That way, you will have massive knockdown power, and a flat trajectory. I am blowing pine-cones from trees at 100 yards with my new 24″ barrel that spits kodiaks at 950+ fps. 22 cal ammo is also a lot easier to get than .20 cal ammo.

Yes, I realize that a .22 cal kodiak would end up going faster but I for some reason want a pellet that is long and solid (like the .20 eunjin). .22 cal ammo is also in more demand, thus more likely to run out of stock. I can easily order .20 cal ammo online. No stores around me sell anything but .177 anyways.

Plus I would have to put out some big bucks for a .22 barrel, and this .20 cal is a great deal. I am on a budget here! 🙁

So what do people think about the eun jin as a pellet??!

That’s an interesting story tramp. I of course know it isn’t the caliber that makes the gun accurate. I see the caliber as a good mix between weight and size, not a caliber that will be super accurate (although it is bound to be). I wouldn’t call the JSB a great pellet either. All of the JSB pellets I have received to date have been incredibly deformed because of the thin skirt.

So what’s the word on Eun Jin pellets?

Edit:

Lol bikin that’s the way it may end up going if I continue on this power craze. 😆

Really, though, I predict that 45-50 FPE with a 24gr pellet will practically explode a rabbit’s head so no need for the 9mil.

Hey pat, I say just get a 9mm barrel, blodnob valve, and be done with it. 😛

If the .20 cal is inherently more accurate, you will see FT shooters (likewise, 10m shooters) switching in droves to that caliber. In any highly competitive game, people work hard to find any little thing that will give them an advantage.

If memory serves me right, I believe I have read somewhere that Mr. Beeman created that accuracy myth when he introduced the .20 cal of higher quality to Americans. This was during the time when there’s really no good quality control process with existing pellet manufacturers except perhaps, some European ones which were mostly .177s. Also, springers were not shooting that fast back then so the .20 would have a flatter trajectory compared to the .22 making hits easier.

With today’s airguns, trajectory is no longer an issue (except for countries with power limits) so it should all boil down to quality control if you are comparing pellets of the same design/profile rather than calibers.
This is not saying that an excellent pellet like jsb works good for every barrel.

Yup, I’ve read all that stuff myself Saugus. It is certainly an awesome caliber IMO. If I can ever get the gun going along at the speed I was talking about I’ll be getting about 45-50fpe. That is way more than I need, but still enough to be super super fun. 😀

What is the general consensus on Eun Jin pellets here? Are they good pellets? Do they deform easily (not after being shot, but while they are being shipped in a tin)? Are they consistent from pellet to pellet?

Pat

I’ve read more than a couple of articles that swear by the .20, and claim it’s the perfect all around cal. for airguns, the perfect balance between .117 and .22. Some AG writers say don’t even bother with those two cal., go with .20 and if you want more, go .25. It seems many feel the .20 is more accurate ballistically than .22 or .177. I’ve had no experience with this cal myself, this is stuff I’ve read in the past on AG websites. Mac 1 Tim had a .20 24″ barrel for sale, but I just stuck with .22 and went to 18″ barrel.

Thanks BC, I may give it a shot if I get the barrel.

p.s. I love your R6
