Q:

Hammer weights…co2

Wasn’t real thrilled with the issue co2 adaptor/valve on my Talon SS 5mm. Worked fine, but had little adjustment. Would run at about full power from #5 to #12, just making more noise and cooling things off faster the higher it was dialed up. It’s what looks to be a Condor valve stem, with the top had adjusted to about .09″.

As issued: (tested @ 87F)
#2 – 499fps (64fps variation)
#4 – 545fps (20fps variation)
#6 – 580fps (11 fps variation)
#8 – 587fps (17 fps variation)
#10 – 591fps (25fps variation)
#12 – 588fps (45fps variation)

Fiddled with the top hat…fiddled with different springs….went back to stock springs/top hat settings.

Decided to lighten the hammer. While not normally lightened by lathing the middle section, that’s what I did. Made a nice smooth taper to the two ends, so the guides sit on a full diameter section behind the taper. Not a drastic reduction, was lightened to 74gr.

It does adjust at the low end. Consistency hasn’t be great below 470fps (14.3gr. pellet).

Tested at 90F (14.3g. pellets from the same tin as previous tests):

#2 – 360fps (50fps variation)
#4 – 400fps (60 fps variation)
#6 – 435fps (20fps variation)
#8 – 490fps (12 fps variaion)
#10 – 612fps (11 fps variation)
#12 – 618fps (32 fps variation)

Even at max power, it’s noticably quieter than before the hammer lightening.
