Would you choose a .22 or .25 for dedicated long range gun ?
I am looking to put together one rifle dedicated to long range
(100+ yards) shooting from a bench and wonder if I should go with a .22 or a .25 ?
The .22 is looking good … lots of pellet choices. But those big and heavy 25’s are interesting.
Are there any suitable .243 (6mm) barrels out there that could be fitted to the Condor ???

BC of .25 Kodiak is supposed to b .037.
I’m having good luck shooting field mice, and field rats with the .22 (18″) bbl in the SS with the Condor valve. Does use a lot of air though!
Kodiaks do OK, but have a strange wobble. The JSB’s are very accurate, but are really effected by anything over a very light breeze.
I’ve been thinking of trying a .25 for them. Just seems like the .25’s should do a little better in the mild cross winds. I would think the BC would be a little better. Any one have the BC of the .25 Kodiak?
I have a 12″ 20, and a 18″ .22 bbl. Any one needing to get rid of a .25 that is a little shorter than a Condor Bbl.? 18″-20″?
Thought of using a old .22 rim fire bbl, and playing with .223 lead kinda like what Air Wolf has available. Anyone tried this?

Odd. I have 2 barrels now that wont shoot the domed EJ at all, but both love the pointed EJs.
Guess Im unlucky.
Well have tested 11.9 grain to 32 grain in .22 and 31 grain to 42 grain in .25 all under 1000 fps and found that the .22 Eun Jins in 32 grain are pretty damn good.
I hunt gophers from 50 yards to about 125 yards and last weekend found the new heavy .22 Eun Jins really bucked the wind with their BC and at 50 yards grouped under a nickel.
So I personally have to say the ammo availability of the .22 and the new 32 grain weight has me kinda of swaying back towards .22 but I need to do more testing.
I do agree the .25 expends more energy and that the 37 grain Eun Jins grouped better then the 42 grain Eun Jins.
Anyone experience grouping issues with the .25 Polygonal barrels as my .22 standard rifling barrel seems to group way more consistantly using 29 and 32 grain Eun Jins and both my .22 and .25 barrels dislike Kodiaks????
Also trying to determine what is the best zero as most of my gopher hits are between 75 and 120 yards.

.25 all the way. You will hit what you aim at, and kill what you hit.
I have both calibers, and the .22 starts to open up a bit more past 70 yards if there is ANY wind at all.
Like almost everybody else has said, the .25 does shoot flatter and almost ignores the wind. Pellet choice is more limited, but you end up shooting the same type in both barrels anyway.
I was able to hit a piece of paper 15 times at 120 yards with a stock SS shooting JSB’s at 840 fps. If you are going to be target shooing I would say go for a .22. You could shoot Kodiaks at 950 fps, which would work out pretty well. If you are going to be hunting at 100+ yards, get a .25.

.25 no question IMHO.
As well as the harder hitting, more power stuff – the heavier pellets make any shot to shot inconsistancies much less noticeable which is great for long range.
Totally agree with .25 over .22, bucks the breeze/wind better, flatter trajectory, not to mention much harder impact at those distances, making it more desirable for both target shooting and hunting at longer ranges.
Having both .22 & .25 and shot both at 100yd, I’d say for your purpose the .25 is the only way to go. At 950-1000fps I’ve found the .25 to have about 6″ less drop and approx. half the wind drift (this was shooting Kodiac pellets in both calibers). My .02.
I’ve thought of doing up a 6mm/.243 bbl, but this would also require making your own pellets/airbullets or paying for them to be custom made.
