Q:

Ordered a Talon

Well I did it, I pulled the trigger on an order. I purchased the standard .22 Talon w/ 18″ barrel. I’ll be ordering a tony shroud to quied it down, unless there is a better option???

I thought about buying a condor, but it was a little out of my price range after the mods I needed to do to quiet it down. The Talon was just inside what I could afford. Hopefully it will preform well enough for my intended application, taking out some trash eating coons and possums from about 50 yards..

I decided on the 18″ because i was told that it would give about 200 FPS more then the 12″. Hopefully I was not miss informed.

Anyone have .22 18″ talon with tony shroud that would like to let me know if you had to make other modifications to quiet the gun down?

Thanks,
Tim

awesome gun. enjoy kingpin. p.s. i have one no regrets!!!!!

Thanks for all the help, I’m sure that I’m gonna love this new gun

That was with a valve mod on my gun. So you can take away 50fps from my numbers and then ad 30fps because of the extra 2″ of the 18″ barrel.

You can get higher numbers with a valve mod. Mine has the original spring so it does not give the max velocity capapble of the MOD. I did not change the spring because I did not want to decrease the # of shots.

If I get the valve mod done that should add another 50 FPS right? if so that should yeild about 38 FPE. That should do nicely 🙂

I went from a 12″ barrel to a 16″ barrel. Kodiaks went from 750’s to 850’s and CP went from 850’s to 950’s

That is plenty for what you need.

You were, like Trigger said you will gain approx 90-110 fps going from 12 to an 18″ pipe.

Rule of thumb is 15 fps per inch of barrel.

When quieting an AF rifle, this is the list in priority…IMO

Shroud
Valve o ring
Vented bushing
Hammer mod
Vented frame

Good Luck

I’ve got a totally stock SS in .22 caliber. It was born with a 12″ barrel. I added a Tony 6″ shroud to it and it made it super quiet. Just a couple of months ago, I put an 18″ barrel in it and it is still just about as quiet. Again mine is stock and the only fps difference I noticed was about 90 fps faster over the chrony with the 18″ barrrel over the 12″. Both were shooting 21 gr Kodiaks.
