Worked my way into getting a shroud
Hey fellas, bikincrazy on this forum got me interested in getting a shroud and so I sent him a PM. He graciously agreed to make me a shroud. He even told me not to send money until I had received it and tested it thoroughly! Bikin is a great, trusting guy.
So I got the shroud in the mail a few days ago, I’ve just been too lazy to make a post on here about it. He also sent me some stuff to put in the frame, which was surprisingly effective in suppressing sound (I mean “catching lead dust” :wink:). And then I put the shroud on and WOW the thing is totally silent other than the hammer hitting and the tank ping. It is very very quiet.
I bought the shroud because I also recently bought a longer barrel and I needed something to keep the noise levels down. For now I’m sticking with my stock barrel for a while to use up the rest of the ammo I had for it (like 4000 pellets). Surprisingly, for a reason I don’t understand, accuracy has gone WAY up!? But hey, I’m not complaining, I love it.
The gun (if you look way in the back you can see my pellet trap 30 yards away):
I was able to shoot this branch from 30 yards away, right behind my pellet trap (in picture above). Only took two shots, 1st one hit bit only scraped it, the 2nd was dead on.

The accuracy change is a common occurrence with a well made shroud. Once the pellet leaves the barrel the air behind it is traveling at a much faster velocity than the pellet itself, this can upset the “balance” of the pellet’s flight and effect accuracy. the shroud helps slow the air and keep it behind the pellet allowing it to fly true without interference from air turbulence of the expanding excess air.
I see you are shooting CP’s. If you have a .22, also try the heavier 21gr Kodiaks and 28.4gr Eun Jin’s. Those pellets will bring you closer to your 45fpe goal, with the 24″ barrel.

But yeah, I’m currently using the CP’s with the stock 12″ barrel. I’m gonna be using .20 cal eun jins in the future with a 17″ barrel.

When I got my 24″ barrel, my metal backstop turned into steel dust 😯
What gauge steel did you use in the back of the pellet trap? Looks like pellets might pass through soon based on the dents you got already.
I’ll get some tomorrow Yellow Ninja (or Y?!?!), I still have to paint it though. So far it’s just a raw aluminum pipe.
I can’t remember the gauge, but it sure is denting. If I ever get around to making the gun shoot about 45fpe I’ll have to find a different backstop!
