Q:

Maybe one step closer.

This morning I was doing some more thinking/drawing on my regulator. The design is there, but it all comes down to the spring. So I rang a few companies, finally got to talk with somebody who knew his stuff. I gave him the requirements, a 10mm OD in as short a space as possible, to fully compress at 2000psi. He did some calculations and came back with 18″ length. 😯 😆

After we finished laughing he said it sounded like a die-spring might do the job and gave me a number. No luck there but got another number, beginning to think the idea was dead.

Disc springs! When the chap reeled off some specs I nearly fell off my chair. 9mm OD, deflects (suddenly) at over 1000nm, and then deflects back when the pressure comes off. Each one requires approx 3mm, so one, two or three are going to fit in a space no longer than 9mm x 10mm. Some space behind them for a spring to absorb the backlash when the pressure comes off, space in front for the piston…25mm tops? The bottle is around 300mm long, so the regulator can be easily 250mm long (x 16mm wide). It’s all looking very doable.

I’m being sent some samples so hopefully once the lathe is up and running and I’ve got the hang of it I’ll be able to start working on this project. 😀

That is the brilliant execution of McMike.
He is the ONLY one to design and build a functional operating regulator.
We all hope he is doing well with that project as IIRC he is attempting to get it commercially produced. He is in a confidentiality agreement with the buying company.
Good luck making a better one as McMike’s has the design down pat.
Walter….

I’ve yet to understand why McMike’s is so incredibly complicated, unless making it adjustable is the reason?

I’m after a good consistent fps. Adjustability can come via the hammer or tophat.

McMike’s is the M16 of regulators; I’m hoping mine will be the AK47. 😀

I guess you will find out on your own when you start making parts to high precision with fit and finish to function well.

All the more power to you.
Walter….

That won’t be the hard part, it’s the sucking & seeing method of testing that’s going to require the most effort.

Walter,

Our good pal Oykas, Leeman, Hammilis, Demos, Bond, SPRapid etc. Claims to have a working regulator on his Airforce rifles. He says his “Machinist Friend” built it.

Here is a shout out to Demos!….I know you read the forum 😛

But of course his regulator has never been seen by anyone else.

Demos was a bullshitter from the getgo so I highly doubt he has any sort of regulator.
BTW is he the same as SP that posts on airgunadvice?

No. But I am sure he chose the name SPRapid to lead people to think he was.

It is kind of funny. He Poses as SPRapid on Airgunfourm.co.uk and as Leeman. Mind you they are the same guy. Leeman then goes on to say how he bought a stealth and several upgrades from SPRapid . SPRapid talks about his friend the machinist that could put a reg into Leemans Stealth….LOL. It is the same guy and they havent a clue!

Oykas is always good for a few laughs. He will hang out in the chat here posing as members and ask questions about regs, tanks and silent breeches…LOL then when he get busted he goes on to question Tonys heritage and my mother…LOL

Oykas told me McMike contacted him for advice on how to make his regualtor. But Oykas says a lot of things, or was that hammilis, maybe it was demos or even Bond….

😆

I meant one that would be available to buy vs concept only.

Yours looks very nice. 🙂 Did you get anywhere with it?

amusing… you make it sound like you are the discoverer of the first regulator 🙂

good luck with the build

Maybe I will be, for the Talon. 8)
