too expensive!
i got a price from tony for a shroud and its close to 300 bucks… is a frame extendor for 50 bucks any good? is it not as quiet or something?

Tony gave me a quote for $200 for a shroud back at the end of May over the phone. I don’t know why he quoted you $300. That’s pretty high for a shroud. It seems there are many different alternatives (and companies).
used to be able to buy some noisecanceling fleece for computer cabinets…i have some thats 2 ply with a less dense fleece on top and the bottom par is more dense….pull them appart, run an open flame across swiftly to melt the surface “hairs” and you got some awesome stuff to put in there !!!
it even has adhesive backing…i would cut plastic pieces and roll them up so they would fit perfectly, and attach the fleece to them…that way its removeable…and can be used to square off baffels.
in the quest for super silencing….drill an aditional hole in the frame between the bushings as far back as possible, and have the front bushing vented…this lowers back pressure and limits sound.
Ask me how I know that….Been there done that. Any material in the shroud will be abused and beat like hillbilly bride on super bowl sunday. It better be able to stand up to it.

Its best to use something solid that cant be deformed.
My shrouds used rubber fender washers that I had to really stack tightly between the spacers, or else they blew out of the end. Very quiet, but always had to rebuild about every 200 shots. Always seemed to start going bad during a hunting excursion too… 🙂
I since built 2 new shroud cores almost exactly like the ones Blodnob builds, but mine do not thread to the barrel. Quieter and almost maintenance free. I know nothing will blow out of the shroud or get loose, but I will probably pull it apart once in a while to clean the dust out.

You sure its $300? I thought it was more like $200 for a Tony shroud?
If you have foam in there it will work for a while. Then the compressive air wave against the foam will cause it to break down and you will start getting a lot of inaccurate shots.

My silencer is pretty much just a tube with a foam lining, and it totally silences the rifle. I think some of these baffled jobbies are a bit overkill for an air-weapon, whatever ft/lbs they’re putting out (mine’s been tried by a FAC’ed mate at 35ft/lbs).
frame extender works ok, i had one for a period of time…and you can go stuff some baffels in there your self, if you capeable of finding some washers and spacers(shouldnt be hard in any hardware store)
washers might need a bit of grinding to fit…screw them on a screw with a nut and stick assembly in your drilling machine…and put a file to them and grind until they have the correct size…or you can just find something else to work as washers….

I can now testify to Tony’s shroud since I just received my TalonTunes Condor the other day. Haven’t had a lot of time to play with it since I’m still moving into the new house but can tell you that Tony’s shroud makes it quiet and can only hear the tank ping. Took it off today for kicks to hear the difference and WOW was that thing loud.
Can’t say anything about the others mentioned on here but Tony’s work is top notch.
