Q:

909S- shot placement

I wouldn,t be asking this ? ,if we were talking M.Z. or bow ,but when using a 909S for deer under 50 yds. where is the best kill shot,broadside,heart-lung . I prefer not to use eye or ear. And under 50 yds. could i expect past thru if no shoulder blade is hit with first shot ,using 200 gr. lead bullets.

will make the blood trail look like you shot the freaking Predator from the movies LOL

there are flashlight filters that supposedly makes blod stand out as well…

i shot a fox that bled alot on the lawn…and the LED lights i could barely make it out…with my maglite it was clear as day

Everything I know about it is on the site I linked. I think it answers most of your questions. i have yet to use the stuff myself, but it may be worth checking out, and having on hand.

Butcher, that Bluestar stuff looks very interesting. It claims that a pair of tablets will make 4oz. and it only includes 4 pair… so thats just 16oz of fluid. What kind of shelf life does it have after mixed? How does it compare to similar, hunting/blood trail specific products in price and effectiveness?

Yes some run is expected and any bloodtrail will likely be slight within the 909S power level. They shouldn’t run more than 50 yards or so if you get both lungs, and hopefully the heart.

If that is a thickly-vegetated 50 yards, especially if it’s getting dark, it might be worth it to have this on hand. Makes tiny blood droplets jump out at you and say “here I am! Over here! Over Here!”.
Get the training tablets, as they are much cheaper to use than the professional stuff used to process eveidence in court cases. That stuff won’t alter DNA.

remember that deer will most likely run….LED flashlight are useless for finding blood trails…shows up black….go with regular type bulb if your hunting dusk time.

good luck…we want pictures !

Thanks Butcher45,i new i could count on you, good advice. 😀

My idea of the ideal shot is the animal slightly quartering away aiming into the armit/crease of the shoulder for the heart/lung, putting the slug into the off-side shoulder. If you are using a good sized slug there’s a good chance at getting a pass thru if you are close.

Stay away from hollowpoints, and use slugs with the biggest, flattest nose that can be shot accurately and you’ll do good. Stay away from Maxi-Ball type stuff that will pencil thru without much chance of a bloodtrail.
