Question for all you machinists
I picked up a 7×14 mini mill and was able to make my own shroud today. Wow this thing is quiet compared to what it used to be.
Now I’m wondering if I could build my own PCP airgun, it seems like it would be satisfying to build my own Airgun, I really enjoyed making my own shroud. I can tell that I will need more training and equipment before I can make my own PCP, but I was wondering if you all could recommend a good lathe and milling machine.

Any idea if these are good machines? other then making my own airgun, there are a lot of other projects I can think of where a good lathe and milling machine would come in handy.
Lastly are there any DIY plans out there on making a PCP arigun?

Well I ordered the milling machine. It wasn’t $415 here, they had it listed for $485, but with the 20% off it only came to about $440 after tax. I’ll be picking it up next thursday if all goes well.
Now, anyone have any home build plans that they would like to share 😀

the X2 is on sale for $415?
Or is it a smaller machine then the X2? I found a smaller milling machine for $339 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=47158 but not sure if it is big enough? it only weighs about 100 lbs, so i’m thinking it might be too small

Thats the same one that I have. I printed out the Toolsnow Mill page which is $399, took it to the Harbor freight store and they matched the price and had one shipped to the store for free.
If you have the money – Bigger/Heavier is better though. Not that the Mini Mill / X2 is bad, its a good machine – I just couldn’t justify the additional cost of the X3 for the size of parts I want to make.

You can kinda judge a mill by weight. A heavy machine is generally better than a lighter one.

I have used this machine for the last 10 or 12 years. It weighs 650 pounds. It is durable, and accurate. You can get one for $1259, including a cabinet/stand.

I like the price of the X2 much better 😀 so it would be enough to build an airgun, is there much difference between the X2 and the X3? I guess I’m wondering how much bigger the X3 is.

Good mills from what I’ve heard, they are the next size up to the one I have (X2) Bye the way, an X2 could make an Airgun (and Buba did with his).
