was in the desert to shoot a bit today….
well some of you might know i traded in a bunch of shit to be able to afford a Rapid mk2 in .25, only to find out its an overpriced piece of shit…daystates are not the only rifles with burrs in the transferport, and bad quality control…Theoben is just as bad ! missing bluing, missing glue…offset and ugly scoperings…you can read all about it on Airgun advise…i did some stuff to sort it out and it has helped imensely !
but the hero of they day was plain old boring Talon SS….i got and quick thrown together picle in the frame, 12″ barrel of the old loose kind, with a front bushing vented with a handdrill, and 800cc tank, 1 piece scopemount, and a 40$ nikko sterling goldcrown 4-12×50 on it….
i was struggling really hard to get a 3/4 ” group at 50 with the rapid…when i was done and wanted to try out the SS, i friggin just dumped the pellets where i aimed… 😯 its akward to shoot, as the scope sits too low as the 800cc tank is fatter, and the one piece mount is only a medium mount…so getting a good sight picture was troublesome to say the least…but once crooshairs was on the dot…the pellet would within ½”…there by out shooting the 1700$ rapid with its 3/4″ groups at best….surely it does not have the same power…but still its a rig that cost me 320 for rifle…10 for picle ingredients…40 for scope and 20 for mounts…
and its pushing about 32 fpe with jsb…plenty lethal for cats, crows…coons…..etc out to at least 30 yards !
Rapid outshoot it barely at 95-105 yards…not sure why, as the SS was master of 37-65 yards…i said barely ….could be the wind playing tricks on the JSB….or me just trying harder with the rapid…
this would have been a perfect day…but the ranger came by…he drove by as i was starting to shoot from a my shooting mat lying down…and he just nodded and drove on….then later as i was wrapping it up he came by and said airguns…cool…your shooting pretty far with those huh, and then said it was nice to see people who took pellets traps with them into the “wild” when they went shooting, he called me eco friendly lol…
any how he then said the park was closed as there was natural occuring aspestos in the air… 😯 😕 🙁 in the park, and he belived it was outside the park as well where i was shooting, so he said “its probably not a good idea to by lying on the ground shooting !” WTF couldnt he have said that when i got there …instead of now when its too late…asshole !
the area at Clear Creek Management area was otherwise pretty active…several trucks drove by the rugged terrrain…saw a minivan with a big family in it…out driving there as well…but i guess their ok as i was the only one spending time in the dirt 🙄

The simple fact Theoben is resting on their previous reputation is shameful. I have seen and shot Rapids in the past that were awesome and beautiful. They should have scope rails by now, a quick fill, better blueing and higher quality wood for the price.
When you look at the difference in what Airarms gives you for the money and Theoben you can see why more Rapid owners are dumping big $$$ into their guns. Sure you get a bigger chunck of aluminum for a reciever. But I know what aluminum costs 🙄
Theoben needs to get off their duffs and listen to what the customer wants.
There was another guy on AA talking about how his Rapid (from AZ, no less!) is shooting like crap as well, something like 1.5 inch groups.
Wonder how long it took him to save up enough money to get such shitty performance out of a PCP airgun. I would be absolutely pissed-off.
All it needs is a tune from AZ and it will be great…. Its only to be expected that a $1700 rifle needs a lil work to get it shooting properly 😀
Damn. Were you shooting that with your eyes crossed? Cyg so what will it take to get that rapid shooting decent?

NOA not much i can do about it….if theres any damage done…its dont …not like i can go a cough it up or anything….prolly gonna be my lifestyle that will kill me anyway…too much alcohol…and fatty foods…

pennicilin resistant bacteria….now theres something to be scared off….most countrys have held back with pennicilin for this reason…but not in the US…heres its perscribed way too much, we where going on a cruise to south america…and they gave us pennecillin for “just in case we got the shits” WTF…so OD some imodium and get on with it…

As for the asbestos…..I would be more concerned with all the salmonella and E. Coli they are finding in fast food 😆

i didnt know asbestos occured natural……in denmark it was used in roof shingles…9 sq feet a piece….i remember when they had to get repainted or cleaner or torn down….
men in spacesuits, with machines from the year 3000…was what it took to get the job done…
i guess your a bit more exposed if your motorcrossing through someone elses kicked up dust, every weekend…

You’re right about the asbestos exposure. No danger unless exposed and/or inhaled consistently.
I, on the other hand, do HVAC work. It’s in old insulation, etc. Which means any normal person in the business would take proper precautions. Me, I don’t give a shit… gotta die from somethin’.
FWIW I don’t believe that there has been a single case of anything caused by asbestos inhalation by anyone other than folks that worked in the production, distribution, or installation of the products. Basically, it’s a problem if you’re breathing it in large doses every day. Not even the staff in the old hospitals that are now closed because of the stuff had any real problems attributed to asbestos.
Of course I got this from a class action lawyer that specialized in breasts, so it is probably only slightly more accurate than whatever you might find on the internet.
Sorry about heading off topic, thought you might want to know that you’re probably not in immediate danger because of your possible exposure.
