First Milling Project
Not AF related so I’ll post here.
A friend of mine saw my lathe work for the talon breech knobs and asked if I could do one for his Marlin 22.
Much more complex, but I hadn’t tried out the mill on my new machine yet so I told him I’d give it a go.
Started with 5/8″ barstock.
Here’s a few pics of my evening’s work.

Funny you say that, one of the Ideas i’ve been kicking around is for a modified “trigger group”. It’s still just chicken scratch on scrap paper at the moment but we’ll see what happens.
Not at all, quite a story behind the deal I got.
This is the newest version of the Shopmaster machine, introduced at the start of this year. When they introduced the new machine, they did a special, to sell off the last run of the previous model (which I had been eyeballing for about 2 years) I got an offer in the mail for the “old” machine at a price of 1995.00, regular price was 2995.00. The new machines are priced at 3995.00. In May, still waiting for my machine ordered in April I was offered opportunity to “upgrade” my order to the new machine for 1000.00 which I couldn’t justify and turned down. When my machine was finally ready a couple weeks ago after 3 month wait, I was again offered opportunity to upgrade and I guess they felt bad about the long wait so I got the upgrade for 250.00. Add in shipping and i paid a total of 2695.00 delivered. As said, their regular selling price is 3995.00 plus shipping.
I love getting a deal 😀 😀 😀
One thing extra I like about this machine is Direct fit add ons are available from shopmaster for DRO and CNC. The machine is manufactured with all the mounts and mounting points built in, holes drilled and tapped, etc.. so if I decide to upgrade it will be a true bolt-on installation instead of modification and fabrication to get everything working.
I will buy some trigger parts if you make them.
You should try making the airforce trigger parts out of some hard steel. That’d be much better than that cheap crap AF uses.

Vise is supposed to be a “palmgren” clone. Came with the machine. Seems good and solid but don’t quite think I got my money’s worth there. course it did hold secure with no vibration or chatter even with a .200 cut so no immediate complaint but probably needs to be upgraded.
All in all, pleasing results considering limited measuring tools on hand (carpenters square and dial caliper).
Nice job ). What the hell is that vice doing on that machine? )

Nice work….
While its nice to just be able to mount stuff without any modifications…. To me thats part of the gun, and you get to look elsewhere for supplies instead of being stuck with what the maker choose.
Plus their 3 Axis Stepper CNC system has a MSRP of $2600… 😯
