TSS fill question
I recently purchased a Talon SS, and of course, once it got here, all of the 3000 psi scuba tanks on craigslist disappeared! So, to fill it, I tried using my 2250 PSI tank, which works fine for lower power PCPs, like the Discovery. However, when filled to 2000 psi, I am only getting around 730 fps with .22 Superdomes. I am guessing this is because 1900-2000 psi is too low to get higher than that. So, being an optimist, I figured I would just crank my speed down to around 650-675 fps to get a few more shots, and at least have a gun that was useable for 25 yards and less. Well, I cranked the power wheel down from 8 to 6, and saw a drop of about 10 fps. So, I cranked it down to 4, and saw almost no change. So, I cranked it all the way down, and it still only dropped to 708 fps. So, I tried going all the way to the top of the power wheel setting, and it got back up to 730 fps, but never any higher. So, I guess my question is this: Is the gun behaving the way it is because the tank valve doesn’t work properly when the pressure gets this low, or does it sound like something is wrong with my gun? Does anyone have any suggestions for something I should be doing differently, or do I just need to get my hands on a 3000psi tank?

Have you tried turning in your top hat, Loki? Even with full pressure, the power wheel doesn’t do much on a TSS over about 6 or so as I recall. Real power adjustment is at the top hat. That said, at that low pressure, you’re probably not going to get many shots or much consistency, at least not in .22.
So what part of WA are you in? If it’s the East side of the state, and you feel like taking a road trip to Twisp, I’ve got a nealy full nitrogen cylinder here. Gets me LOTS of fills, each one last about 6 months. Later.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. It is nice to know that it is just a pressure thing, and that there isn’t anything wrong with the gun. I may have to run to the fire dept and see if they can give it a fill – that is a great idea, as I work right next to one.

you could take the a/f tank down to the dive shop or local fire department with your adapter to fill it, I had to doo this when I first received the condor and the pump didn’t ship for some pyramyd reason. also there are a few members here that are up in Wa. perhaps you could set something up with them, If I was still in Duvall I’d say come on over, bring some beer and we’ll shoot in the back yard and I’ll cook over some fire, but I think Az might be a bit to far of a drive.
That is normal. It just means that at 2000 psi and the lowest power wheel setting, the valve is letting out as much air as it can. When you set the PW higher, all you are doing is letting the valve stay open longer, because the 2000 psi cant push the pellet any faster,
