Help me identify this rifle.
When I was a wee lad I remember my dad trading off a semi-auto Remington 742 (I believe) chambered in .30-06 for this rifle.
This rifle is also chambered in .30-06. The only markings on it are mostly rubbed off. On the barrel is stamped the letter “P” followed by a logo. The logo is a “donut with a wing.” Also on the bolt handle is stamped the same “donut with a wing.”
I believe it’ll accept 6 rounds. Bottom of it looks like it should be one of those “hinged floorplate” loading mechanisms but it doesn’t open.
What is it?

ATP has got it. Definitely a sporterized Enfield. I killed my 2nd deer with one set up just like that. Action was very smooth, trigger long and mushy. Almost got mine rebarreled (mine wouldn’t do any better than 1.5″ at 100yd with handloads on a good day) and adjustable trigger added, but wound up selling it to finance a T/C Contender in 7×30 waters as my new deer hunting rig (which would outshoot the enfield in the accuracy department 8 days a week).
Very close Dave. Sporterized 1917 Enfield. My dad still uses this for deer hunting. 😉
I looked up all of the images I could find of the 1903 A3 action and it’s a bit different.

Quite possible. But it still looks like a wing to me. 😉

Trigger has definately been reworked on this one then. I’d say it’s less than 8 oz. 🙂 Bolt is pretty darn smooth.
It needs a complete refinish. Don’t know how it’ll shoot but it’s a cool one to mess around with.
I killed my first 3 or 4 deer with it.
