What can I do to "loosen" the safety?
My safety is SOOO stiff it actually kills my thumb after a while (losing the tiny red nipple didn’t help either) I tried making sure i cock fully to the front, no help. Strange thing is it’s not always stiff. The other day it started out fine and after 20-40 shots got VERY stiff. I’ve now resorted to holding the bolt cocked and releasing the safety first before loading. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. TIA

This here is my safety
I’m going to climb up on my soap box…………I act as if a laser were projecting out of my barrel and anything that gets swept by my barrel gets cut in half. One way to be safe is to have total muzzle control at all times. Anything mechanical can and will fail. I like the idea of a safety but don’t rely on it. Ok i’m off the soap box now.
I wouldn’t be at all happy without a safety on my rifle. Only time i release it is when my scope is on the target.
I know what you are saying about the best safety being in your head, but as we are falible humans…..
Its a stage of my shooting cycle i wouldn’t be without….

Let me explain how i’ve been doing it. I cock the bolt, load a pellet just like normal then i slide the bolt forward as if to reset the safety then push the safety off. See any danger here? It is a PITA.

What I was referring to, was the fact that some of us here have had the breech slam shut on their thumb while loading a pellet.
Every one of those rifles had the safety removed. Its the only think keeping the hammer locked while you stick your fingers in the breech.
You can do as you want, its your gun.
I think the key time would be inserting the pellet. If you’re doing that with one hand, and holding the bolt with the other, you just dropped your rifle…..
Everyone I know pushes the pellet in with their thumb. If you disable the safety and get even a little sloppy with your trigger discipline it’s only a matter of time before you trigger one off. Nothing like a springer, of course, but I bet it hurts?
I know several guys that have taken their safties out, I’ve left them out of other guns (like QBs), but doing so does remove a potentially important level of protection. I’d think twice before letting anyone else shoot it as well.

Okay, I’ll bite, how does removing the safety result in a smashed thumb? I had 2 TSS’s, no safety on either, removed the safety on my brother’s TSS, and my AA S400E came without a safety. No smashed thumbs in sight! I’m confused.
BTW, Sam, I’d just remove the damn thing, the best safety is the one between your ears anyway. Later.

On the smashed thumb deal I tink he’s referring to IF you left your thumb in between the top hat and the bolt. Which i don’t, i’m holding onto the bolt knob. Now to Dave, i agree with you about grey matter being the best safety, if i remove it (the safety, not the grey matter) can it be reinstalled ?

I wonder what Airforce’s thinking was when they made the saftey to be that hard to release ? Surely this isn;t just an overlooked quality control issue.

The difference is day and night. This is what Tony does when he tunes an AF rifle. VERY easy to release the Safety.

It pays to have reduncancy… that being said I have removed my safety 😳
