At the end of my patience with my pump….

I have had enough.

Ever since I repaired the pump with an o-ring kit and a good cleaning I have not been able to get it to pump a tank from around 2300 to 2900 more than once without loosing the o-ring in the central pipe. The o-ring that comes with the kit only lasted 3 pumpings and then it died. Since then I have tried Fluorosilicone at 70 durometer (Died damn near instantly), Silicone at 70 D and it died after 1 use and finally, Vitons at 90 durometer. The have failed as well.

I am about ready to say this pump has me beat and not be able to shoot my Talon anymore. Seriously.

Does anyone know what material is best? Does anyone know what the original kit’s green colored o-ring is made of? I need help or I’m out alot of money for a pump that does not work correctly.

I would ask Tony of Talon Tunes, or Tim at Mac-1. Oh, Rob3dr…I bet he knows about “O” rings and the proper lube. My AF pump has a dark gray lube that looks like engine assembly lube. You could also track down Rich from Mich on the yellow forum…he’s very knowledgable too. You sound very frustrated and that’s not cool. Hopefully you will get some good tips and post for us what you did to resolve the problem and be a happy shooter again. Good luck!

You need to get O-rings that are made for high heat. Normal O-rings will fail. At least it did in my airforce pump.

that’s all I needed to hear, I’ll pick some up and give them a try. I’m not impressed at all with the standard ones I got from home depot, the worn out stock ones I’v had in for years were doing better.

I’ve had some in use for breech orings for about a month now, seem to seal much better than the stock ones. Not enough shot cycles yet to make a determination as to durability but should be excellent.

Is the o-ring the right size and thickness? Sounds like it coud be the wrong thickness. A regular black o-ring should be fine.

It doesn’t take me 5 minutes to pump from 2300 to 2900 with my Hill pump actually. Still, I am pumping up to pressure, giving it 10 more and then taking a break for 10 minutes. It should work I’d think.

What would be the proper lube? I’ve tried diver’s silicone, 100% die-electric silicone and a synthetic (100% non detergent) oil. None have proven themselves useful yet.

The o-ring shows signs of wear on the outer edge and it seems to have a “flat” spot line on the upper edge of the o-ring as well. The non Viton rings also broke completely, as if cut or pinched.

I checked it very well a couple days ago while cleaning out that central pipe. I could see no obstructions of any kind. It was clear and smooth.

I will certainly check it again on my next “repair”.

I don’t know if this will help, but I did see some green o rings at auto zone yesterday, I can’t remember what they were made of but they were a lightish green.

Do you have a burr or something stuck in the pump that would be tearing up the o-ring?

That’s what I’d think. Definately shouldn’t go out that fast.
