.22 TSS on CO2, very first impressions
The Fedex truck showed up pretty late, so I couldn’t play with it much. I mounted the scope and got it mostly zeroed, fired maybe a dozen shots.
It’s quieter than I expected, but the ping is the most annoying.
The ergonomics need some improving. The length of pull is way too short, and the 12oz tank w/o a buttpad is nearly unuseable. I’ll have to check a local paintball store later today and get the cheap slip on as a starting point for now.
Fit and finish are unimpressive, but I didn’t buy it as a pretty gun so it’s about what I expected.
It’s still too early to start playing with it today, the wife is still asleep.
Earliest I can get some time on a lathe and mill is Friday night, I have some aluminum round stock and a carbon fiber tube that I want to experiment with.
Without too much work, I think I will be quite happy with the platform.

The “ping” is the hammer/valve noise being channeled into my face via the tank. I slipped a neoprene cover over the tank, that helped.

FWIW, I bought a couple foam-type “coozys” to cover the tank (in black, of course). I cut the bottom out of one, then did a very light Gorilla glue application to bond them together.
It fits perfectly on a 12 oz tank, and the O.D. of the foam provides ample noise insulation and a much improved cheek rest than the skinny-thin neoprene.
Give it a shot, you’ll like it.
I just got back from the shop, I made a proper baffled aluminum endcap.
Six chambers, first one is about 1″, the last five are just over 1/2″.
I ended up at 1.005″ OD, but I grooved it for two O-rings as well.
Very quiet, the guys at the shop thought the gun was broken until I showed them how much louder it is without an endcap.
Enjoy the TalonSS on co2, it’s the right combination of power/noise for suburban back yards. IF there is an accuracy difference between PCP and CO2 at ranges up to 40-50yards, I’ve not found it. No a great choice in winter.
This would be a one-chamber end cap, chamber 1.5″ long (mostly internal), which makes for a real big chamber (the frame) and a small final chamber (that end cap) and a nicely quiet co2 rifle.
This morning I got one of the cheap plastic slip-on buttpads, major improvement.
I put in a stack of fender washers and O-rings with a couple 1″ OD springs as seen in the quick reference section here, much quieter. Tonight I should be able to get some time on a lathe and mill to make a proper baffled endcap, so the washer stack is very temporary.
I am liking it so far, definately quiet enough to shoot indoors without upsetting the neighbors.
i get 700fps with beeman crow magnums with my stock talon!! use it for critters in the town of 2000 happy people and few old sore heads.

I am not planning on tweaking it yet, just making a baffled endcap (and a frame extension for later) and adding some kind of buttstock. Drop in parts that require no disassembly of the airgun.
Yep, it isn’t that loud on CO2. I’d say the noise that my unshrouded Condor SS makes on CO2 is similar to the noise that a roofing nailer makes. My neighbors have concurred with this comparison.
Not “gunfire” loud, but loud enough to let the neighbors know that I’m slinging lead, dang it… 😉
They’re cool with it, but I’ll probably get a shroud (Frame Extender?) sometime over the winter months just to mellow the noise out a bit and keep the neighbors in front of their TVs. I’ve no need to be pure silent, just maybe get it down to “brad nailer” noise levels. 😆
That said, what “ping” are you talking about?
One last thing… Did you buy it new? Not trying to step on your modification initiative, but if it’s brand new, you might want to put a few hundred rounds through it first before you start tweaking it. JMHO.

I used two of the cheapy neoprene beer can cooler sleeves, cut the bottom off and doubled them up. That worked pretty good, then I added a full length sleeve I picked up at the paintball store.
Small amount of skateboard tape was applied to the tank to keep it from slipping.
