Well, I still have all my fingers. 😛

My mill came the other day. Various tools. Stock arrived yesterday. Today I stripped down the rifle and worked on the trigger assembly. The sear had two nasty little ridges that were scoring my nylon hammer (a Leupy production), so I sorted that out with the Dremel. It looks like the sear is pinched at the top edge, which produced the rail-track ridges. Very odd, hard to see how it could have been accidental but unclear what benefit they could have had. Guess I might find out when I reassemble the rifle and operate the mechanism. Oops!
Also Dremelled the safety, that’s much smoother now. Measured up the breech and will start on an alu one tomorrow. Then I’ll do a nice end-cap.

The breech appears to have a very slightly tapered bore. I don’t know if this is intentional, but both my brother’s stock breeches were the same. Maybe a long-term flaw? The two o-rings are identical.

Does anyone work with SS, or is mild-steel the thing to use for valve-bodies and suchlike? I’m buggered if I want to pay for HSS taps and dies, they’re around x4 the cost of carbon-steel jobbies.

Well, that’s my update. I’ll post some pics soon as I have anything to show. Possibly directly from A&E.

HSS is Carbon steel. Just a littled cobalt added for hot hardness. Shouldn’t be much more expensive at all. Most quality tap and dies are Hss.
