MTC VIPER 8-32×60 Review
Ok, used it enough now, at various ranges, to be able to let you guys know what i think of it.
I was using a cheap, 120 dollar scope 4-16×50 AOE, flip up covers(rubbish), standard scope covers,cloth in the package.
This is a 525 dollar scope,sunshade(not pictured) metal flip ups, 6 inch side wheel, 30mm high mounts,screw on ring for when not using sunshade,cloth in the package.
So lots of goodies included 😀
Glass is nice, ETE microlux coated. Dammed if i know what that is 😳
Really good SCB reticule. As you can see, good clear dots both for elevation and windage, with 11 illumination settings( brightest shown).
Turrets are nice and chunky, easy to use with gloves or cold fingers ! Good precise 1/8th moa clicks but not happy with the push down to lock. Sometimes doesn’t click down properly. Parallax and IR on same wheel which works well.
Mag works well all the way up to 32x and stays crisp, and i mean crisp!!
Low light shooting is very impressive, with that big 60mm bell sucking up all the avalible light! Eye relief gets VERY tight in low light though, but in fairness it was almost dark by the time i packed up!
Eye relief on the whole is pretty tight, quite hard to get used to to begin with, but it gets easier the more you use it.
Is it 405 dollars more scope than my old nail?
No, but then its like most things, you pay alot for relatively small improvements.
I’m very happy with it, but i won’t be splashing out on another scope for a good while!! Spending that kind of moneyon a scope is a bit gratuitous, cos lesser scopes do almost as well imo.
If you got the money, then i’d say go for it. If you don’t, get a cheaper one knowing that your not missing out on THAT much….

That is one mint looking scope m8 😀 I think they are very good for the money I got the one you were going to get originally the 6-24-56 and I am pleased with it, although i have not done any real testing with it, hell i have not even put it on 😯 The build seems like a tank and very nice clear optics in there too. Feels a heck of a lot lighter then the big nikko i had on there earlier 😀

That scope turns the gun into an evil lookin’ shootin’ iron, doesn’t it? (despite the “hello Kitty” change purse sitting underneath it… that’s not your pellet pouch, is it? 😆 kidding…. )

Yes, the review was a little underwhelmed i guess. As you say Buzz, when you are spending a bit more for a scope (top end of my budget) you expect the moon!! But i got realistic and was eventually pleased with it 😀
Lang answered the questions for me, scope has taken plenty of knocks and still stays bang on.

“Thick” reticles bug me… which is why I’m not a big fan of any MilDot I’ve seen so far, at least for airgun shooting. What’s the viper’s reticle offer in this respect? Would you call it thick, thin or hair-thin? Just wondering if you can simply see what you’re shooting at instead of having to look through that calculus equation.
How does it hold zero from session to session? Would you be concerned if you gave it a little bump while setting the rifle down?
Maybe still too soon for you to answer these questions, but keep throwing your 2 cents about this scope… just last week I was thinking about getting one over the winter, and it’d be nice for complete first person account.
One more thing… do us gadget geeks a favor and post a pic of it with the shade and wheel installed. 😉

The reticule is real sweet, I prefer it to the milldot on my Nighteater. Extremely crisp and very fine.
His rifle was transported in the van a few times, without a case, and the zero suffered no detriment.
Thanks for the review… although it’s a little more tepid than I’d anticipate, coming from a new owner. On the other hand, I’d be hyper-critical myself if I shelled out those kind of bux.

Yes,that tight eye relief virtually eliminates parallax error cos if your not looking down it right, you know it! Get the head position right and its like watching a HD screen(albeit a tiny one!)

Does it ever… It looks about the size of a wagon wheel lol. It’s huge, can’t remember if it’s 6″ or 8″ in dia.
The reticle was actually designed for airguns, not firearms so it should be very nice. When I was buying a scope for my SS these had just come out. The first batch wouldnt focus down very close but MTC fixed the second shipment so that they would. I believe its 10 meters. I wish I would have waited for that second shipment but what are you gonna do. You cant have a new airguns sitting on the shelf for a couple months waiting on a scope.
Very nice! It really is supposed to be a great scope. Nice reticle, I much rather have that design than the normal mil dot I have on mine. I wish there were at least ‘hash marks’ between the dots on mine, as there’s to much space between the dots for me, for hold over increments. Anyways, congrats on your new Viper.
How close will it focus.
I have a scope where they say it won’t go down below 20′ but it does fine to 12’…
Does it come with a large focus ring?
Do you think the tight eye relief helps eliminate parallax?
