Tophat adjustment on CO2 adapter?

Is there any benefit to be gained by tweaking the tophat adjustment on the CO2 adapter?

If so, what’s optimal?

(special note, I don’t have a chrony, but I do have a caliper… so if there’s a tweak, it has to be slam-dunk bang-on, with FPS being assumed)

For a Talon SS 12″ barrel, 12 foot pounds (in .20 or .22) is about it for co2. past a certain point, the power wheel just squirts out more gas but not more power (makes it a bit louder, but no faster). Adjusting the top hat all the way out until the bolt will barely close just makes that happen at a lower spring tension number.

Reducing the hammer weight would make max. vel. happen at a higher spring tension number, and does give a bit better LOW end, but it’s not worth the doing for co2.

As you don’t have a chronograph, will have to rely on penetration in a uniform material for setting the spring tension. Wood varies too much in grain structure from one point on the board to another to be real reliable, but givien a uniform grain and soft wood, it would “ball park” it for you.

BTW, my CO2 adapter was just the ticket with my ‘wevo tank’. This is a small HPA tank and 850 psi regulator that ends in a Paintball fitting that matches the AF unit. I got a pile of very accurate shots at 12 fpe.

No advantage I found. Mine shoots 12 fpe with the 12 inch .22 barrel no matter how high it’s set. I moved mine out as far as it could go and still close the bolt to no avail.

Likewise, advancing the ‘power wheel’ to big numbers didn’t up the MV either.
