Shooting indoors with lead pellets is it that bad?
I am getting worried shooting lead pellets indoor should I be? I am going to get kodiaks double gold and some hypers just to shoot indoors. WHat other lead free pellts are good? Should I stop shooting lead pellets indoor?

Based on what I have seen in the powder burner’s, FMJ’s at high speeds will cut the life of your barrel in half or maybe less. I really think the Lother Walter barrels will be the same with more rounds through them.
What type of firearm barrel is this?
Overbore rifle chamberings, and 4000 ft/sec varmint cartridges will burn out a barrel in a few thousand rounds. That’s primarily gas erosion in the throat, and bullet choice doesn’t matter so much.
The worst barrel burner chambering I shoot is .50BMG.
3000 rounds and I should be expecting to rebarrel. I currently run a Lothar bbl in my .50 and it shoots better than ever at the 1500 rd mark. Most of those rounds were lathe turned, 750 grain, brass c360 solids. A friend had a bunch of those bullets made a few years ago, I bought 3K for $.65ea, compared to AMAX for $1.50+ea. Equally accurate at <1000yds.
The reason I mention thess bullets is because they should be be really tough on a barrel, swaging a solid slug of brass through a rifled barrel, but it’s not an issue. What destroys the barrel is the hot gas erosion in the first few inches of rifling. The money I saved on those bullets at the 3K mark will buy a replacement barrel (pac-nor, LW, Lilja, etc) and a Nightforce scope.
Pistol barrels, lead vs. FMJ there may be a lifespan difference.
I have only worn out one pistol barrel’s accuracy, it went from 6″ at 50 yds to 18″ after 70,000 rds of FMJ. Figuring the cost of reloading components for that many rounds compared to the cost of a replacement barrel is laughable, that was a $400 CZ-75 that took $7-10K worth of bullets powder and primers to wear out.
Consider how many rds a barrel should last, the cost of the bullets/pellets to do that and than worry about wearing out a barrel. Barrels are cheap, tens of thousands of rounds of ammo are expensive. Saving a little money on ammo can buy an expesive replacement barrel.

If it was many people shooting at the same room for a long time then it is not all that good of an idea, but because it is only one shooter ,you should be OK
I’m not too sure about them fmj pellets, the rifling in the barrels are a bit soft for copper. personally I wont shoot them in my gun.
those Hyper’s weigh like 10 or 11 grains I think, way too light to keep slow enough to be accurate, I could be wrong though I have never tried them
So I get some Kodiaks copper coated will this still let off lead? Will the Kodiaks mess up the barrel long term affects wise cuase of the copper coating? How well are those Hyper Rws lead free pellets?

Just make sure your in a well ventilated area like maybe a fan or the home AC running. Also keep the carpets vacuumed.

well….lead out of the rifle is no worry…your target area however should concern you a bit…
a target with some sticky duct seal or simelar (pyramidair sells some) is a nice way to do it…it lower noise from the trap, and it catches the lead.
i made a trap ot of a steel plate, with 10 layers of carbe on it…it held up for 2 years of alot of shooting, this catches the lead particles too.
in my basement the problem was that my server was about 2 yards away…and it is now very contaminated with lead dust…not really dangerous…unless you breath in the air comming out of the case right after a shot…or you stick your fingers in your mouth after messing with it.
i had some cases stored too…those where also covered in leaddust…again…dont lick the boxes, or your fingers hehe if they come into the house lead might rub off on carpets etc…your might drag it with you un the soles of your shoes…pets might lick your shoes, kids might be playing on the carpet where you just walked…
the sticky duct seal eliminates most problems, if you allready got a pellet trap, tape some carboard on it to stop particles from flying out of the trap and you should be fine…just remember to replace the cardboard once in a while, when the centerholer has gotten too big.
i bought one of those .22lr traps…and i got pellet fragmens all over the place in my garage, which bugs me, i have taped up the front of it with a piece of cardboard to contain fragments a little more….home depot and lowes have disappointed me, in not having any duckt seal..this grey ticky stuff is great at catching pellets, even from bigbore airguns…when pushing 500 fpe about 5″ of the stuff would catch and contain the bullet !
I would say you have no worries on shooting lead indoors, the hype on lead poising is just that Hype. the only thing you would have too worry about is if you were putting a pinch between the lip and gum 😉

Your right.You have to keep one thing in mind elsolo, Most Airgun rifle barrels are not of the same quality as powder guns. Thats why most airguns shoot lead although some guys have barrels in airguns that are made for powder guns and they do work out just fine. It does take alot to eat up a powder burner barrel but with FMJ’s in most airgun barrels…lets just say it’s not a good thing 🙂 After shooting action pistol for years due to the barrels at that time and the lifespan of them, lead bullets was always better for the gun than FMJ’s in that sport and one could get more out of the barrels in the long run and FMJ’s seem to need hotter loads to get them to perform.
