Silent Pellet Trap
I just built one, thanks to information found on this forum.
I like when how to’s have step by step and pictures of each step, so here is my version of Silent Pellet Trap building for dummies =) ( in a good meaning of that word)
All material can be purchased at Home Depot.
1 pc of 2×4, some plywood, and 14 pc of Duct Seal.
Cut 2x 12 inch and 2x 18 1/2 peice of 2×4 that you got.
12 inch pieces will go between 18 1/2 peices, I used screws instead of nails for solid joints.
Box frame is done
Now you will need to cut the backing for your Pellet Trap from piece of plywood. Size is 18 1/2 x 15.
Again I used Screws to attach it to the frame.
Now unwrap Duct Seal and start packing it tightly into the box.
Pack them in nice and tight. You are DONE !
Now go and shoot the crap out of it !!!

Very similar to the one I made. I’m finding that at 20-25 yards on very low power (2-3) with wadcutters is about all I trust 1 layer of duct seal to handle. I’ll be adding more because this trap will never be more than 31 yards away. I did use a steal backing plate. Same distance and power but using domed pellets – hit steal every time.
I also learned yesterday (upper fifties) that when this stuff stiifens in the cold… not so quite any more.
I will add some reinforcement in the back and post some pics later =)
SeattleDude your trap is a nice design, but you really need to make it stronger. You have seams with your duck seal and some pellets will catch the seam and go right out your back stop 😯 if your shooting with good power. You need to add more plywood or 2×4’s on the back to help things out some. I would use a metal backing plate to really help stop things. What fpe gun are you shooting into your trap?
I like the traps made out of electricial boxes because you can leave them outside all year long.
That is great. You might need another layer of putty.
My Talon would shoot all the way through that. I had to put a layer of MDF behind the putty. That shit is tough

I also have a couple layers of that stuff. It will stop a crosman pistol but not a Talon. When it warms up the pellets cut through it like butter.
I know it sucks to spend more on duct seal but it will last for years.
Also you might like putting some paper clamp on the wood to nicely hold the target.
