Q:

Top Hat questions …

I finally got my 18″ standard Talon .177 on high pressure air. I ordered a Talon spare tank from PA to convert from co2 and with the arrival of my new compressor I got to work testing top hat settings.

I read the Quick Reference information about Top Hats and in there it says that .070 would be a good starting point. But my TH came from the factory pre-set to .090 and I can’t adjust it down much below that as the threaded portion on the stem doesn’t go any further.

I can adjust it up so I played with the adjustments that way and with Kodiak Match pellets I was averaging 958 fps at .090.

At .110 velocity increased to 974 fps and at .120 velocity dropped back to 969 fps with the .177 Kodiak Match pellets.

So for now I have the TH set at .110 and tested it on paper at 30 yards this evening. I got a late start and after zeroing the scope I only had time to print one 4 shot group before the sun went down … and it measured 3/8ths of an inch 😀 I was real happy with that !

My new frame extender from Tony arrived today and I got a kick out of the gun just making a click when I shot it. Thanks Tony for a great mod !!

Now why is my TH setting so different from what was listed in the QR area ?? Did PA send me a Talon tank or a Condor tank maybe ? Did AF make a design change on the Talon tank ??

I would like to increase my velocity with the Kodiaks to 1000 fps … what would be the easiest route to pick up the extra 26 fps ??

Thanks a bunch Guy’s !!!!! 😀 -Steve-

My tss came set at .90 also. It is performing so well, accurate, numer of shots, etc. I just left it.

Measured and weighed my rifle … with the Tony tunes frame extender and WOK butt the rifle is just a pinch under 45 inches long … and with the Weaver V16 scope it weighs 7 lbs 7 ounces. Gonna make a great squirrel popper 😀
