Talon SS, a new experience
I just got a Talon SS and am new to the board. Been looking on for a while and you guys give great advice.
My addiction to air guns prior to the Talon SS includes an RWS 34, 54; R7, HW50 and a P3 pistol. I actually rotate through them all and shoot each one of them once every two weeks or less. I shoot only paper (indoors and out)and non-leaded pellets when I shoot outside of the target on my land(at paintballs and clay birds). I will never sell any of my airguns. Someday someone will have a lot of fun selecting from my collection after I am done with them.
This precharged gun is a whole new animal. I have shot it over the last two days(CO2) while waiting for a pump and some other goodies to show up. I contacted Air Force and they sent me the free CO2 adapter and I have gotten lots of shots out of my first bottle(set at 2-3). What a wonderful and strange new beast.
The gun is aesthetically so different in feel, but so simple and elegant. Everything on it is just so straight forward. I love my other guns, but this thing is so accurate it stunned me. I love the challenge of all things being equal, trying to get in the zone for accurate consistant shots with the R7. I want the accuracy and this thing, in two days, makes me look like a accuracy genius compared to my other guns.
This thing is quiet and like a laser beam. I love the CO2 route and but want to know is the pumping that bad? I would love to shoot on the cheap like my other airguns . Just pellets and paper, so after the initial investment(ouch) I want a few years of just pellets and paper. What are people doing, scuba tanks, Co2 or pumping? One of the goodies arriving is the micro tank, I don’t need power.
No dive shops around here so its Co2 or pumping.
Pellet suggestions for close(15 yard) and long(30 and up experiments)? I don’t hunt but I am excited at seeing how far I push thing out and keep it in a one inch circle. I may be able to back up quite a bit and still get a paintball.
Anyway thanks for having a great message board and I know that my purchase is keeping a fellow American employed. I have fun and he/she gets to keep their house. A fair trade.

Mine is a .177. I really shoot for the accuracy challenge.
My .22’s(RWS 54) make bigger holes and are easier to see because I like to shoot with peep and iron sights occasionally. For the Talon, with my scope dialed up I can see the little holes fine from far away. I like the idea of using less lead (since I shoot paper).
Outside when I shoot cans or paintballs or clay pigeons(anything outside of my homemade ductseal lined targets) I like to use non leaded (skenco)simply because my kid runs all around the property we have, I have a well(water), and if in the future a family continues to live on my land I want them to not have to not ever have worry about any lead contamination. I want to keep lead out of my immediate environment. I know some kids who had lead poisoning and it has really damaged them. I know I am being paranoid about this but I also want to plant a garden or two next summer and the less lead around the better.
I am tall, what kind of riser or wood block might I want to put under that pump?

If you are going to be pumping only, I highly recommend getting a high quality pump, such as a hill. As for pellets, i would recommend Premiers for C02, and JSB’s pr kodiaks on HPA.

Just out of curiosity, why only non-lead pellets?
Pumping isn’t that bad. Takes a little getting used to, but when you get a technique down, it isn’t bad.
Also, what caliber is it?
For .22, if you don’t mind lead pellets, the jsb and kodiaks seem to get really good accuracy out of these guns. I bet you could easily keep it within 1″ out to 50 yards, probably farther.

I have no experience with the .22 cal but .177 and .20 cal are excellent-I shoot both.. 12″ and 18″ .177 and a 18″ .20cal- .177 is a bit less expensive co2 is good -I have the adaptor but hpa is way less particular regarding temperature fluctuations. In .177 jsb heavies beeman kodiaks and crosman premier heavies are all great for accuracy. The .20 cal kodiaks and the 14.3gr premiers are excellent for accuracy. I have the hand pump(AirForce) and pumping is not bad at all- the initial fill is a job but take your time you will get there- topping off is a breeze. Ive heard that using non lead pellets are not good for your barrel -I wouldnt dare use them. Id build a good trap to catch the lead several if I had too- lead is the only way to go- besides the non lead stuff is in no way accurate.
