Optical alignment of scopes
I remember reading something about this but can’t seem to find the post again.
If using adjustable scope mounts, how do you make sure you have the scope’s internal adjustments optically centered?
I don’t want to use the “count-the-clicks” method, I want to know if there is a practical, systematic method to center everything up.

There is the easy way which costs a few bucks and the not so easy way which costs nothiing.
Easy way : get a mirror coaster with a 1/4″ glass layer which is found in kitchen ware or candle store for about $3. Put it on a flat surface with a light source from the side (sun light is best). Rest your scope on the coaster vertically with the objective against the glass surface. Look through the occular and you will see a reflection of the reticles. You may have to play with the magnification to get the best image. Line up the reflected image with the reticle and voila. A 5 minute job.
Not so easy way : get a cardboard box and cut v-notch in the opposit sides to allow you to rest your scope horizontally in them. Aim at a distant object and rotate the scope one full turn to see if the aim point moves around or not. Adjust your turrets by trial and error. Takes about a day if your sanity can last that long.

Thank you guys. I think a few bucks can be sacrificed in order to keep my sanity and get the job done in a few minutes.
