.177 Vs. .22
What are the advatages of one over the other? Is there anywhere a .177 shines over a .22?

Want a demonstration? Take a drinking straw and blow a spitwad out of it. Now do the same with a coffee stirrer straw. Which was easier to blow the spit wad out of? ๐
Rob what your saying makes sense. But could you not turn your top hat down or would you have to turn it down so much it might bottom out when fired?
You can always adjust. My point specifically was that .22 is more efficient than .177 when regarding shot count at a given power level.

.177 typically does not get more shots per fill than .22……… Just dont happen that way.

Has anybody else experienced “Tank dump” from using .177 in a condor? My thoughts were you could get more shots per fill and they are SO much cheaper than .22 and as long as you stick with a Kodiak or similar weight and keep it to 50 yards or less, should be great.
177 or 4.5 mm is a wimpy little european caliber. American men shoot 22cal pellets because it’s better, especially in PCPs and CO2s.
I guess springers are best in 177 and the 10m crowd uses 177 because of rules. But I don’t shoot springers as they have been thoroughly obsoleted by Airforce!!! 8)
20 cal is good for guys that can’t decide between 177 and 22, and/or believe beemans drivel about it being a superior choice. 25cal really is a better heavy hitter in big PCPs.

I think you could flip a coin really, but the long 60 yrd. shot,with the 177, and the reduced power of co2, your pellet drop may not be bad at all. On the other hand will the pellet have enough take down power? If I were you I’d rather have 22, and get a scope with mil. dots to compensate for pellet drop. I shoot some awsomely heavy pellets on co2 and at 60 yrds I go to the bottom of the scope before the mil. dots starts, but I know they have enough take down power. Plus you never know you may want to get a tank in the future. I’m not putting down the 177 it will get the job done and with better shot placement,I’m more pro 22 I want as much killing power as possible.
Iยดm thinking to buy a condor but I will use only co2, so Iยดm looking to some stings and I donยดt know if I buy in 0.177 or 0.22, my intention is shots at 30 to 60 yards.

a .177 in the new condor tanks will cause a valve dump.
since you posted in the condor section i just wanted to say that condor got too much power for .177
.177 will be fine in an SS, in a condor go .22 or .25
I use to shoot .177 and then I got my big boy pants and started using .22

i find that .177 uses more air compared to a .22, maybe because the valve stays open a little bit longer due to the small size of the bore.
I like how .177 makes a louder sound, shoots flatter, and penetrates deeper. My favorite choice of .177 in my condor is the cp 10.5 gr domed pellets.

Sure the .177 shot faster in springers. The tis because the same power plant was required to propel heavier and heavier projectiles.
In our PCP’s, this isn’t the case. We can easily dial in the required power to compensate for the added weight or larger calibers.
A .117 at 1000 fps will not only drop faster than a .22 , but will be much more effected by the wind as well.
If we do the math, it will show us that they will drop exactly the same. Gravity doesn’t care if a pellet weighs 10 gr. or 20 gr. What makes the .22, and even better .25 behave better at distance, in both drop and retained energy is something called the BC. You Will retain a higher percentage of energy, (Loose Less of starting energy), with a better trajectory, and less wind drift, the higher the BC of a projectile is.
.177’s by nature have a very low B C, and slow down much faster, hince faster drop, and shed their energy at a much faster rate. A lot of this can be seen and tried on Chair gun.

JSB exact heavies in .117 (BC .023) and JSB Exact in .22 (BC .026) have almost the same BC indicating similar long range trajectories. Conventional wisdom sugests that the really heavy .117 pellets like the 16.1 grain Eun Jin’s might have a better BC than any of the lighter .22 caliber pellets. Not that those .177 Eun Jin’s are cheap or anything.
I wonder if the .177 Eun Jins might be quieter at 900+ fps than a 32 grain .22s at 900+ fps.
I also found it interesting that the Logun pellets did so well. They have a very distinct shape.
