Pellet / rifle question
I’m planning of getting a condor to help rid our city of pigeons..My question is, what pellet would be best and also the courthouse where I’ll be shooting has a copper roof and i’m worried about a missed shot putting a hole in it..or..do you think they would richoche of and not damage it? thanks!

BLK; I’m still laughing at your last post. What city do you live in? I want to move there and help you rid the city of flying rats. It sounds like a dream come true.
As far as the right rifle? It sounds like the cops could care less as well as the City Council. With that in mind why not go gangster? May I suggest a .50 cal BMG. That way you wouldn’t even have to leave home. You’d just have to lob a few fat rounds at the city’s center and you’d scare the flying rats away.
But seriously, for saftey sake, use a .22 Talon SS. AKULA

Actually the city/county has tried for years to get rid of the pigeons, on some Sundays the cops will perch atop the buildings on the square and blast away with shotguns..I used to have a skeet range on my farm and the club members and I would get together on a Sunday afternoon and blast away at them, one Sunday we were standing there with our smoothbores and a highway patrol came screaming up to us and demanded to know what we were doing..(it couldnt have played out any better).. before I could answer a pigeon flew by and I plastered him and the bird hit the hood of the patrol car 😆 after he radioed the city cops he took off like he was shot out of a cannon…it was hilarious.. so..to answer your question.. yes I have been asked to try and thin them out..thanks!

First to answer your question a Condor is to powerful for what you want to do. Get the Talon SS in .22 as Nuglor has suggested. Even the Talon SS is to powerful for your shooting needs. I have a unmodded Talon SS and it will do easy head shoots at 30 yards on pigeon size birds and will pass through them at the same range.
Second please read Harry’s post again. You need to make sure what your backstop will be because these pallets are going to go threw the bird and hitting something.

In this day and age, what makes you think you can shoot lead at a courthouse without winding up on the six o’clock news? 😆
Are you on the city payroll to cull the pigeon population, or are you looking for an extended-stay in the Graybar Hotel?
I would use the condor on co2 jsb they are extremely accurate in that range and the speed would be around 750 or alittle less.
8-10 stories is about 100ft or 30-33yds. Does that sound about right to you? That’s not much. The Talon SS is what you want. It’s a lot more quiet than a Condor and has plenty of power for pigeons past 50yds. It’s actually too powerful for shooting around “Main St.”
The thing is you ‘ll need to go somewhere and sight the gun in for 30-35yds and practice before you start shooting them, otherwise you ‘ll be guessing and missing each time and god knows what you ‘ll hit.
I would not be shooting at a courthouse or towards its direction. Even if you hit them, the pellet will almost always go through them unless they are 80 or 100yds away. If the courthouse roof or any other structure is behind the pigeons (other than a tree) the pellet will hit and make noise as well as put a hole in it. Not a good idea.. especially if you live in a populated area like on Main Street in the middle of town, which sounds like you do!
You are asking for trouble and you could get arrested and the gun will be confiscated unless this is sanctioned by your town and they have asked you do it. Shooting an airgun towards someone else’s property (without a good backstop on your property) or over others’ property, or over a roadway is against the law besides unsafe. The pellets legally should stop within your property unless you have permission to do otherwise..
It really sounds like you need a low-mid powered Springer (break-barrel) like a Beeman R7 .177 cal. so there won’t be a passthrough at 30dys, and if there is, there won’t be much energy left in the pellet to cause any damage. Check out Pyramyd Air or other web sites. It’s the same gun as the HW 30 which is bit cheaper than its Beeman equivelant of R7. They cost around $359-379 I believe, and have the Rekord (best) trigger as well as amazing accuracy. They are a pleasure to shoot. But you can alwasy dial down the power on the Talon SS but again you ‘ll have to practice at a lower power and at the distance the pigeons are usually at, so you ‘ll need to hit the range or go to the woods.
I would go with the .22. More knockdown power and it still shoots relatively flat. I know pigeons are tough little flying rats and a .177 might just piss them off. Assuming 8-10 stories is roughly 80 to 100 feet, you’re looking at basically a 35 yard shot. I happen to have my TalonSS sighted in at 35 yards and can hit a dove in the head using Predators. Just make sure you get a quality scope. One with an adjustable objective is usually better for the longer shots. Remember, if you zero your gun shooting across a flat plane and then try to take a shot aiming almost straight up from the ground your POI will be off. Make sure you take that into account when zeroing your scope. You might try setting some type of target at the top of the building and shoot from the ground to try and get your zero.
The talon might be the ticket..noise is a big concern for me shooting here in town..the shots will be pretty far..at least 8-10 stories high..what would you go with 22 or 177? thanks!
JSB Predators work well. Very accurate in AF guns and great take down power. As far as putting a hole in the copper roof… It really depends on how thick the copper is, how far away you’re shooting from, angle and power setting. With a Condor, you’ll be getting well over 1000 fps with a .22 pellet. Also, an unshrouded Condor is VERY loud. Sounds closer to a .22 rimfire than an airgun. You might consider a TalonSS for the job. More than enough power to take down a pigeon, much quieter and easier to handle due to the shorter length.

Depending on your monetary situation and if you plan to use it elsewhere, I would go with a TT shrouded condor.
