city coon
This was taken last year in my back yard. I was getting ready to head off to work, when I noticed the crows were going crazy around the tree.
I stood up on my truck bumper to see what the hell was going on, and saw this guy up in the tree!
This guy was huge ! I didn’t own a high power airgun at that time, would have made a nice hat.

Not bad as pets IF you can ‘coon proof your house. They are smart, curious, michevious and VERY strong. Given the slightest chance, they will get into anything and everything. Usually with destructive results. Short of padlocking every door and drawer in the house, you can NOT keep them out.
The big problem with ‘coons comes after about two years. Once they mature, they tend to get mean, or at least assertive. With a 20-30 pound animal that can literally turn around inside its own skin, this can be a problem. Cute as they are when they are little, the destruction of curious, prying hands and the probability that they will become nasty toward you and everyone else makles them a not-so-good pets.
Now, if you are looking for an exotic pet, try a 2-3 week old bob cat. If you’re a cat person , that is. They grow up to be 30-35 pounds and make one hellacious guard cat.
