Q:

need some advice..

I have almost completed my talon change over from ss to super ss..some changes include a 24″ heavy barrel, 105g hammer,a very affective suppressor and an old style condor valve borrowed from my co2 adaptor..the valve is what I have a question about, I don’t have acrony to check velocities w/ so I am going purly on penitration into a 2×10 at 40 yards for my comparison..w/ the modified talon valve I was getting about .5-.75″ worth of penitration and w/ the condor valve I only get about .25″ worth. I am filling to 2500psi but seem to get the best results at 2000 where do I need to look to find my problem??? 😕

hey thanks for all the help but as i took things back appart , I came to notice that the valve stem had not one but two holes in it from the set screws in the top hat having been over-tightend.. 👿 but on the happy side of life I polished and slickplated the valve stem and am now way faster than before..this is a definate since the sonic crack is now outside of the pickle and is way too loud for back yard use on high… 😈 I have down loaded the soft-corny software and am going to give it a go and try to get some pics taken so I can share this toy w/ the world…..

have you considered softchrono… pc and mic…

Where are you? Maybe someone near you has one?

the wierd thing that i did notice when i was filling my tank back up from empty w/ an a/f pump……..is when i shot it at 2k it had a whole new snap to it but once i got it up to 2500 and shot it again the snap was gone and again at 2800 but still nothing toget excited over…i did three shots at each setting w/ three different pellets 14grn 16.4grn and 18 grn they all blow thru 2×1 pine stakes at 10yrds butt no pen at 40…I know i need a crony but beeing alaid off machinist I am doing my own mods at a friends shop and getting a crony is out of the question for the time being..

Get (or borrow) a chrony…it’s the only way to know for sure. Wood has a lot of variation…if you just have to shoot something, shoot something uniform. Wet news prit is close, but you have to keep it at the same level of wetness.

have managed to shoot some light pellet fast enough (over 1200fps) that they just crater hard wood…blow a nice sized crater, but no real penetration. Doubt that is your problem, but if it gets fast enough to really mangle the pellet, penetration in hard wood tends to drop.

Everyone will tell you, before you touch the valve, get a chrony. Only way to really know how it’s doing.

After that some tuning will probably fix the problem. Just turn the top hat counterclockwise and it’ll let more air flow. But only way to get a good tune is by shooting over a chrony, so that’s the first step.
