Re:Pellets… How light is too light?
I remember when I bought my Beeman RX-1 they told me to stick with the heavier pellets to give a cushion to the piston face and prevent in from slamming the end of the compression chamber. My question to you all is how light would you feel safe going? I’m looking at these to try http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9222905 The price is so low I thought what the heck. Those will be fine weigt wise. Light would be skenco (5.7g/6.4g) and raptor (5.4g). 7.9 is mid weight, with around 9+ (crosman Premier heavy / Eun Jins) being heavy (IMHO).
i should have been more specific. shooting light pellets in a springer may cause damage due to the lack of compression that a heavier projectile produces. A pcp on the other hand is only prone to a loss of accuracy especially at speeds over 1000 fps.
I think that in PCP guns it is the barrells rate of twist that comes into play. We don’t have any control over rate of twist, so we need to adapt by choosing pellets that work best in our guns. As Rob has pointed out, springers are like finger prints; they’re all different and each needs to be tested with as many different pellets as are available. The PCP guns seem to be more forgiving. They seem to shoot the same pellets fairly well, (JSB’s, CP’s, etc.).
An RX-1 is a springer. Pellet weights do matter even in PCPs if speaking ballistically.
in a pcp pellets weights are not an issue, its when you start to use springers.
They’re the same weight (7.9 gr) as the JSB Express. Price seems right, give them a try.

You should use mid to heavy weight in the RX. RX has the gas ram, so there is no spring to wear out. Light weight pellets won’t perform well in that thing, use 7.9grain as a minimum.
