Busy in the Lovett Shop
Well since this is the machinist section, here is what I’ve been up to lately. I received this Iron Wood from a buddy up in Mass.
Good looking stuff! This one is a Classic Loveles Drop Point with the Double Nude “Texas Rose” from our Loveless Connection Knives.

I got into Samurai swords a few years back, there is something about extracting the steel from black sand that is very amazing and the heat treatment process is from another world all together…
Your work has the same mastery of metal and wood feel that one gets from the older Japanese blades and your comments about moving the technology forward is what it is all about!

I kinda wish I had one too. every time I make one for myself, someone talks me out of it. So I’m knife less again.
Yep, I always liked Gil’s work. One of his old students, and a past Loveless Partner, Steve (SR) Johnson is a good friend of ours.
What is really different about this new one is the technique I’m trying to develop to make the guard-blade juncture look almost integral. I’m shooting for an extremely tight fit. This is slotted, then cold forged into the blade, double pined, and then soldered with a special solder. So far, so good. In fact, Steve helped me out on some of the technique. We are working together to rid custom knives solder joints from the old bug-a-boo of flux out gassing. Seems to be getting there.. Keeping or fingers crossed!

And the latest fighter. We put this one up for judging at the Spirit of Steel Show In Grape Vine Texas a few months ago, and she won Best Combat Knife. What do ya think?

3/4″x1 1/2″x15 3/8″.
