Custom Valve Spring Retainers
Hi – this got me thinking… what’s the benefit of changing the standard plastic retainer to a custom brass one? if any?

that is bullshit…..it does make a difference
make it shorter to take up less space in the valve it self add power
funnel it make more air flow….more power
changing to a bigger bore to suit a different spring can add power
making the bore smaller will lessen power….
so saying that changing the retainer doesnt do anything is just plain WRONG

90+ shots at 15fpe in .177 is why I have one. Works a charm. I am trying to get hold of a 24 inch barrel. Thinking with the increased efficiency of .22 along with the longer barrel, I should see around 120 shots in the 20fpe range in .22 with the setup……

For up close pest control or just paper punching in the yard a lot of power is just not really needed.
I have seen restricted flow retainers and had wondered why you would want one of those???

The difference is the ID of the retainer. You can add a restricted retainer and get the same effect as a micro tank.
It makes no difference at all.

I think mario meant to say that if you were to change the delrin retainer with an identical brass retainer, it will make no difference.
I thought that the standard spring retainer is made out of brass though… I might be all wrong.
