dose anyone know if these thing are capable of standing up and lasting on a 7mm mag?

Hey, Paul. Actually, I do sit in a chair for some pig hunting; I have a small stool for still hunting at this one spot we go to; just plop down on the camp stool and wait for them. We’ve been lucky there a few times. The landowner has been complaining of pigs so much this past year that I finally drove over there last week and dropped off my .25 cal Condor, a full bottle of air, and a can of the heavy Eun Jins and told him to knock himself out. He lets us hunt there for free just to get rid of the pigs for him, so I don’t mind supplying him with all the pellets and air he can use. In a couple months goat season opens here; I have to lose another 10 lbs first! It’s hard work hunting goats. and smelly. Ugh, who ever thought of this stupid sport??? He should be shot.

Blue Jay, I used to think the same way, then after spending a lot of money to get to hunting grounds, lodging, food, transportation, I found myself up in the mountains with a rifle/scope combo I had proven on the range… but bringing it up to my sweaty face, heart thumping from climbing over the rise chasing goats, I found the picture really disturbingly off focus, off color, difficult to make out some stuff in the field of view, let alone line up a shot. This was probably around 350 yards or so. What worked ok under ideal conditions on the bench turned out to be crap in the field. Nowadays I’ve learned my lesson. I spend as much or more on the scope as I do on the gun. You only fire the gun once or twice for long stalks. But I sight through the scopes many times before pulling the trigger on any given hunt. I do use some cheap scopes on my airguns, because all of that kind of hunting is done very close in; but for powder burners and anything over 100 yds, spend the money. The scope I had trouble with was the Bushnell Trophy, I think 3-9×40, it’s still on my Sako, I’ll have to pull it off and check. Funny thing is, when I compared the Bushnell to my normal Leupolds side by side (mostly Mark IVs) in my living room/looking out the windows at houses, there were barely any discernible differences. The Leupold was SLIGHTLY better but not remarkably so. Then, on the rifle, in the field under difficult conditions… wow, day and night. I’ll never buy another Trophy again (I ordered about a half dozen after buying and examining one specimen), although I”ve been hearing good things about the 3200 and 4200 series. And I really like the Vipers that I purchased a year ago, they have been very versatile and I’m told they will take recoil although I’m hesitant to try.

I understand, believe me. May be it’s me, but I would lube that 7mm and put it away untill better times. Other wise, on the top of everything else, you take a chance losing another $150 because someone told you it will hold up. I love Leapers myself – very decent option for PCPs and medium recoil springers.
Blue, In crawling the web for info before I ordered the Leapers 4-16×56 SWAT that sit’s atop of my condor I saw plenty of posts in powder-burner forums with guys with all flavor of AccuShot scopes. Most seemed to be on M-4, AR15 type of rigs which are tough on scopes due to the repetitive shake rather than just recoil.
Seems to me that you would be fine puttin’ it on your 7mm Mag with their steady mule-like kick, ‘specially if you don’t intend to shoot it too often.
no that’s not what got me, the economy and my bank account is what got me
that is what I’m going to put on the condor when they get back in stock, and I was hopping I could use it on the savage as well because I just can’t justify spending the money that I want to on the that 7mm when I rarely shoot it any more.

that’s what’s going on with the simmons that came on the gun in a package deal, if I turn it anything past 4 or so all you can see is blur and the adjustments are all but frozen, it no wonder I’v never really been able to the broad side of a barn with it.
I was hoping the leapers was rated and would stand up to the recoil of that beast, but as I thought it looks like I’m sol
I didnt have the swat one but i had the 4-16×56 and mine worked funny after a year….of just airgun and .22 LR use. The glass would get fuzzy at certain magnifications. Also the knobs got hard to turn. I may have twisted the knobs too far and perhaps it got misaligned.

Walt, gotta love it, sitting on a camp chair for pig, I’v had some pretty relaxed pig hunts before but I’ve never brought a chair with me, I would just post up with my ass on the cold ground and the back to a tree and weight.
I hear what you guys are saying, I would love to spend a shit load on not only the glass but I would like to restock it as well, it just not in the budget right now so back in the closet it shall go until the jobs start to pick up around here.
