Harmonic accuracy degradation & dampening (HAD)
From a patent abstract:
“Upon discharge, a firearm barrel begins a pattern of harmonic vibrations moving from chamber to muzzle and back. This vibration pattern is affected by the volume of the powder charge, the weight of the bullet, the design of the bullet shape, the seating depth of the bullet in relation to the bore, the rifling twist, the diameter of the barrel and the way in which the action and barrel are mounted to the stock of the firearm.”
Although I’ve not read about this anywhere with regard to PCPs, I thought perhaps the collective intelligencia of TA.com would know something of harmonic ballistic accuracy degradation and its effect (if any!) on PCP accuracy.
Given that pellets are somewhat inefficient aerodynamically – or at least so when compared to a boat tailed FMJ for example – is HAD a possible concern?
Just a shot in the dark (all puns intended…) but, for you brainiacs among us, within a regression string, how significant is this variable? Has anyone actually tested it in conjunction with dampening technologies?

I know that the Vortec Accuracy Tamer and the HOTS system on Wiscombes guns are related to barrel harmonics. I’ve also read where that folks have attatched various harmonic dampeners to the barrels of their guns with ‘seeming’ good results.
As for myself, I think for 99.9% of my shooting, such a device would not give a noticeable benefit.
