Now I don’t have a chrony to perform the velocity test and fpe for my pellets and I need help to get my first catch….[Rabbit]
I have a talon ss .177 ver 12″ barrel
What would be the best power wheel setting for my hunt at 65 yards ???
What would be the best psi fill for a night hunt with best 20~30 shots at 60~70 yards ???
Pellets being used for the hunt would be Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy .177 Cal, 10.6 Grains.
I do agree that the barrel length / pellet type & weight would play a major role for the hunt, but I have to manage with the above specs for the kill.

I tried about 25, 100yd shots for the first time 2 weeks ago. Fill pressure was 2800psi. 940-950fps. I have a bit of testing to do on other pellets. I only had 21g Kodiak’s and 16g Predators and a light wind. I had no hits in the target’s 4 inch bullseye with the predators after 9 shots. The next 15 shots were Kodiaks, I was grouping about 2.5-3.5 avg with a 5.5 extreme. I firmly believe that an 18″ shrouded barrel will do better and will surely kill a nutter at range. But until I can close that up abit ( all me 😥 ) I will continue to decimate at a comfy 50yds or less and head shots 😈

Just a side note – a squirrels head at 100yds is a nice shot indeed, cause there ain’t much to shoot at…lol

i’m no help..i’m stuck with co2 currently.. 😉
without a chrony, it’s going to be quite tough to get real data….
what I would do in that situation is to place several targets at 65 yards, or whatever your intended range is.
I’d then fill the gun to 2800psi and start shooting.
I’d do 5 shot groups at each target, taking note of when the POI starts to shift.
If it shifts up, you know that your fill pressure should probably be lowered…. once it starts to shift down, you’ll know it’s time to refill. Keep count of your shots and note the pressure when you go to refill.
This is what I do.
I have a Talon SS with 16″ barrel and a ported and polished valve. It shoots CP’s in .22 at 950 with the PW set a 7.
I can consistently hit a 2″ spinner and ram at 100yds.
Once set I do not mess with it. I shoot kodiaks at 855 but they are a loopier then the CP’s.
CP’s make a nastsy WHACK! when they hit….LOL Instant feedback

Sorry to have missed out names …..
More than anything your gonna need a good shot real good… My 12″ setup in .177 gets kodiaks going in and around 900fps- at 65 yards or so you might only have single digit energy numbers. Well placed shot would be critical. setting the power wheel at 8 with a 2800psi fill gives me tons of shots in the good mid 800 range. I also shoot an .18″ .177 setup and have shot kodiaks as fast as 1060 but thats just too fast. I dont shoot at 65 to 70 yards often but I can imagine youre gonna need more power either from larger caliber or longer barrel and heavier pellet in .177
