Q:

Horses can Hear my Talon SS loud and clear.

I was shooting The Talon SS (which is super quiet) out at a rooster farm and there are a few horses out there…When I would shoot, the horses would take off running scared like I was shooting the Condor or something…It was effecting them from as much as 100yds away..It didn’t seem to bother the Roosters or any of the other birds I was shooting at. I thought that was really odd…

I know what you mean. I like Weatherby Mag’s. But I’m shocked that you didn’t know better! 😯 It is standard to let every one know you are touching off a round. It is the very basics in proper manners with a gun. I wouldn’t have wanted to go to sleep in camp after pulling a stunt like that.I’ll bet you know better now! Here some one would have make a suppository out of that rifle.

By the way, Fauna means Plants life. Not animals. 😀

LMAO!!! forget about high power firearms, i got pissed off when a few days ago a friend of mine fired his sumatra behind me without telling me. i guess i would get REALLY pissed of with a bang like the one from a high power rifle.

Fauna means animals, you are thinking of the word flora, which usually preceeds it 😀

Humans and fauna (animals) react to different things. I remember one instance where both had the same reaction.

My hunting group just completed setting up camp in the high country of the Big Horns of Wyoming. We normally sight our guns in after the trip into the mountains as the airlines and truck rides through the passes in the mountains can knock off the best set scope.

Being lazy I set up my rig over my uncle’s pickup truck hood. Men were standing around within 20 yards. The horses were about 50 yards from where the noise would come from.

I pulled the trigger on my rig. I had no idea what shooting over the hood of a truck would do. I was litterally stunned. By that I was unable to focus my eyes, I couldn’t hear anything but ringing in my ears. I was a bit wobbly.

I kinda shook it off and looked around. Everyone of my hunting party was on the ground, knocked off their feet. I went over to help the head of camp, General Walker back on his feet. (Gladly, he’s short and doesn’t have far to fall). He told me that the horses jumped three feet in the air.

I was told to never, EVER shoot that damn rifle within 200 yards of camp and to never, EVER shoot over his pickup truck hood. He was suprised he had a windshield left.

So much for super magnums. It sure drops the game though! AKULA

Never thought of it from that perspective….Geez no wonder the birds look so confused when I zing one passed’em….

First, I dont want you to try anything stupid but I have had pellets shot in my direction and they make a very loud “ZZZZZZZTTT” sound (for a lack of better description) when they fly. These were stabilized pellets shot from my Condor.

One day my Wife said she could hear my pellets, so I went down by the target board and hid behind a tree. When she shot, “ZZZZZZZZZTTT-WHACK” Could hear the pellet coming loud and clear.

I’ve had a couple shrouds on my condor/talon that produce a metallic “whisp” or “whistle”. Not loud, just that you can tell what it is. My wife can’t hear me shooting from inside the house but a couple dogs a block or so away always go nuts. Guess there is some HighFrequency sound (inautible to us humans) that still escapes the shroud.

Yes it is 100% truth!

that’s interesting, my wife’s horse and goats could care less.

‘course I’ve been shooting my shotgun, 22 hornet, .223 out back for a couple of years, so they’re probably used to the noise.

Maybe if you would quit shooting AT the horses, they woudnt run off scared! 😆
Just kidding man.
I guess maybe horses have very sharp hearing?
