Groupings keep changing-> Beeman FTS .22 ->SOLVED
Just got my New .22 barrel.
Only pellet I have is Beeman FTS.
Have ordered for Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy….
Tried the Beeman Field Target Special .22 Cal, 14.6 Grains, Domed
Just not able to get them grouped…
They just keep changing POI by 3-4 inches at 20 yards…
Talon SS / .22 cal 18”barrel / fill 2400 PSI
Has anybody else faced this issue ???
How to rectify it ???

For the same Talon in discussion when I bought it with the .177 barrel ,12″ the tophat never use to snug against the breech. There use to be some play at all times and I use to get accurate groupings.
But I will try it snug for my .22 barrel 18” and see the groupings.
Make sure your tophat is snug against the breech when it is closed and turned to the side, and order the Pellet Sampler from Straight Shooters. It has 33 different kinds of pellets to try. You haven’t found the right ones yet. If you can only try a few at a time, try some JSB Exacts.
im pretty sure the kodiaks will solve ur problems
Silicon is not a good lube for the hammer, due to it may get sticky and cause the hammer to shudder down the frame, causing inconsistancy, a nondetergent light weight oil or maybe some grafite, I put rem oil and slick 50 on mine, but I wouldnt reccomend this cause I may end up replacing parts, its my experimental gun, and it hasnt been on more then a couple of weeks so far, so far its working, but for how long only time will tell.
Out of curiosity I did take out the hammer to check. I found a small filling less than 1mm between the Delrin bushing and the steel hammer.
Now that filling, looked like something that would have come off a lead pellet. I had no clue how it got there but I took it off and had my talon reassembled.
But I am stuck with a faulty top hat too and so am awaiting replacement.
Things that I would be trying due to the overwhelming responses by our valuable members:

You may have something called hammer chattermeaning the hammer is hitting the breech with inconsistant force. Often times this is caused by improper lube (silicone) on the hammer or a burr on the frame/barrel/hammer.
Now that’s a ray of Hope as I was beginning to get disappointed.
I have and it has always been fixed by lubing some pellets good and shootin them thru or changing pellets.

What I meant for “no good for consistency” is setting the power wheel at 0.

What would this be referring to, am sorry lost track there.
At power wheel zero I know for sure the power is less, but cause I don’t have a chrony I cant comment on fpe and fps.
The behavior of being loud once in a couple of shots does exist even on low power which does hamper the groupings too.

They say this is no good for consistency, but what does it do with the power wheel backed all the way down?
If I set the Top Hat to anything lower than .110 then there is a lot of play to both the sides when I cock the talon.
Top hat is .110 inches.
Power wheel is set to 6/4
I’ve even tried it at 8/2 and it behaves the same..
but the loud-normal nature is seen at most power levels.
As you said “That loud one is going super sonic I’m guessing”
am sure it does cause the noise when it hits the pellet trap at 25 yards is pretty loud.

Its time now to end the post as I have achieved what I’ve been looking for.
Would like to Inform all the grouping are perfect after I got my top hat repaired and changed to CP Pellets.
When I say Top Hat repaired the hex screws were tightened to ensure the breech cocks the top hat tight and there must be no play once we lock the breech knobs.
