where to send my .25 barrel
well I just received my .25 lw 24″ blank from leemak. I can not turn a 24″ barrel on my lathe so I need to send it out to some one. I am looking for advice on who to send it to (usa).
Stower1, had sent me the email of the guy that did his barrel. He seems like he has an ok price for turning down the barrel and installing vented barrel bushings. I would still like to hear the advice of the board.

a 90 cut would be the simplist for me. what is a sports crown?

I have been shooting in competition for decades, and have never seen or met anyone who could say an 11 degree crown is more or less accurate than any other angle. Personally, I don’t like the 11 degree crown because unless you have a bull barrel, the 11 degrees doesn’t give you enough of a high crown or protective shoulder. The idea is to protect the inside edge of the barrel channel, so you don’t ding the lands or grooves at their most sensitive spot, the end of the barrel. This is the very last part of the rifle that contacts your bullet, so it is the last chance your rifle will have to exert any control over the bullet before it goes off into free flight.
Since AF guns have the barrels enclosed inside the extrusion (excepting the 24″ bbls) this point is moot. You could leave it with NO crown and there will be no difference. For any air rifle, the barrels are so skinny I would not recommend an 11 degree; I would do either a sport crown or a 90 degree crown. But, that’s your bbl so you get to do anything you want.

thank you, Walt. I feel I can turn down the breech without any problems. What I am not for sure about is putting an 11 degree crown at the muzzle. I have read on other posts that some just use a 90 at the muzzle with no problems. I would like to have the 11 degree crown.
If anyone has any advice for the 11 (89) degree crown please let me know.

Rod, congrats. You must be excited, it’s always fun picking up a brand new piece of equipment. I like the chinese tooling, it’s pretty good for out of the box stuff. They don’t seem to last as long as an old american hunk of steel, but they are easy to find and cheap.
I was going to offer my services to recontour your barrel, don’t know if you emailed me or not. I haven’t been able to check my email for a day or so, been so busy with work. Always willing to help out a fellow machinist, though, so if you run into a snag let me know. Pick up shipping both ways for your stuff and I’d be glad to throw in my labor for free, long as you’re not in a rush. I also don’t have a condor with me, mine is on loan to a friend, so I don’t know the dimensions, you’d have to sketch the cuts out with dimensions so I know what you want. well my 9×20 is in the warehouse and I should have it this next thursday! I feel I got a great price on it 😀
I did check and it has a a little over .8 inch pass through. Thank to everyone who sent me info, but I think I will ba able to turn down my barrel myself.

How big is the pass through?
My co-workers old lathe that I have been using, does not have a pass through head.
I have a chinese 9″ x 20″ lathe on back order. I have not got a confirmed arrivial date from them yet. maybe I will wait and see if it has a pass through head. That would save me around $90.00, that I could put towards new tools.

I’d hope you could poke it through the head and leave 3″ or so hanging out to turn down.
How big is the pass through?
How would I set it up in a small lathe, for a 24″ barrel? do I just turn down the barrel then cut off at the chuck and make a 23″ barrel?
I have turned them on my 12 inch mini lathe ,no problem…Ive since up graded it to a 14 inch ,,with a kitfrm Little Mcahine shop .com

The crown you see on most sporters or sporter weight hunting rifles, which is almost all hunting rifles. It’s just a semi spherical, rounded crown.
